The Opportunity
Amylyx Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly motivated Associate Director, Data Architecture to lead the design, implementation, and evolution of our enterprise data platform as we prepare for commercial growth and future product launches.
This individual will play a key role in building a scalable, modern data ecosystem centered on Snowflake, enabling trusted, high-quality data across Commercial, Medical Affairs, Patient Services, Finance, R&D, Quality, and Corporate functions. The role combines enterprise data architecture, solution delivery leadership, and stakeholder engagement.
The successful candidate will serve as the technical lead for enterprise data initiatives and will partner closely with business stakeholders, external vendors, managed service providers, and implementation partners to establish a robust and scalable data foundation that supports operational excellence, analytics, reporting, and AI-enabled insights.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strategic vision and deep technical expertise across data architecture, integration, data engineering, data governance, and business intelligence.
Responsibilities
Enterprise Data Architecture
- Define and maintain Amylyx's enterprise data architecture roadmap and target-state data platform.
- Lead data architecture and solution design for new business domains including Commercial, Finance, HR, R&D, Quality, and Regulatory.
- Establish scalable data architecture patterns for ingestion, transformation, storage, governance, reporting, and analytics.
- Develop and maintain enterprise data models, canonical data structures, and integration standards.
Commercial Data Platform & Launch Readiness
- Lead development and expansion of Amylyx's Commercial Data Hub and enterprise data warehouse.
- Design and oversee integration of key commercial data sources including:
- CRM, Specialty Pharmacy, Specialty Distributor, Patient Services, Claims and Prescription Data, Formulary and Market Access Data, Customer Master Data, etc.
- Support commercial launch planning through delivery of high-quality, trusted data and reporting capabilities.
- Collaborate with Commercial Operations and Analytics teams to enable KPI reporting, territory management, incentive compensation, customer analytics, and launch performance tracking.
Data Engineering & Integration
- Provide technical leadership for Snowflake-based data solutions.
- Design and oversee ELT/ETL processes utilizing Snowflake, SQL, Python, Talend/Qlik Data Integration, APIs, and cloud-native technologies.
- Define standards for data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, monitoring, and automation.
- Review and approve technical designs, code, and implementation deliverables from internal and external teams.
- Drive optimization of performance, scalability, security, and maintainability across the platform.
Data Governance & Master Data Management
- Partner with business and IT leaders to establish data governance processes and standards.
- Support enterprise MDM strategy and implementation.
- Define standards for data quality, metadata, lineage, reference data, and stewardship.
- Ensure compliance with applicable GxP, privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Vendor Management
- Act as the primary technical lead for data architecture initiatives and strategic programs.
- Manage relationships with implementation partners, managed service providers, and data vendors.
- Establish best practices, development standards, code review processes, and operational procedures.
- Mentor technical resources and contribute to building a Data & Analytics Center of Excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, or Business Intelligence.
- 5+ years leading enterprise-scale data architecture initiatives.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions on Snowflake.
- Experience supporting commercial operations within pharmaceutical or biotechnology organizations.
- Strong experience designing and implementing modern data warehouses, data lakes, and analytical platforms.
- Expertise with:
- Snowflake, SQL/SnowSQL, Python, Talend/Qlik Data Integration, Power BI
- REST APIs and enterprise integrations
- Strong knowledge of:
- Data modeling, Data governance, MDM, Data quality frameworks, Security and access controls
- Experience designing end-to-end solutions from source systems through reporting and analytics.
- Experience managing implementation partners, consultants, and managed service providers.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to executive, business, and technical audiences.
- Experience designing data products that support AI, machine learning, or GenAI initiatives.
- Experience implementing enterprise data governance or MDM programs.
Work Location and Conditions
- At Amylyx, we proudly support remote work opportunities within the United States. However, due to business considerations related to health insurance coverage and state tax regulations, we are unable to hire employees who reside and/or work in certain states. Currently, we are not considering applicants from Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Michigan and Tennessee.
- Preference will be given to candidates who reside in the New England region and can be in person on an as needed basis.
- If outside of the New England region, you will be expected to travel to our corporate location in Cambridge, MA several times a year and attend other company-related events as necessary and requested, which may include travel by air, driving or public transportation.
- When working remotely, you must have access to a work setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at your remote location.
