The Opportunity

Heritage Werks is seeking an Archivist to join our Archival Services team in the Duluth/Suwanee, Georgia area. We’re looking for someone who brings equal parts precision and curiosity, someone who thrives on structure, thinks critically, and is excited to uncover and preserve the stories behind historical materials.
You’ll join a passionate, collaborative team working on meaningful projects across a wide range of industries, helping clients preserve their history and make it accessible for the future.
What You’ll Do
As an Archivist at Heritage Werks, you’ll work hands-on with historical collections of all sizes, collaborating with clients and team members to organize, preserve, and unlock the value of archival materials.
You’ll:
- Conduct collection assessments and content surveys to understand scope, condition, organization, and research value.
- Process, arrange, and describe physical and digital archival collections.
- Perform descriptive cataloging, apply metadata standards, and create clear finding aids and collection inventories.
- Apply archival preservation best practices when handling, organizing, rehousing, and storing materials.
- Identify and recommend materials for digitization and support digitization projects and workflows.
- Conduct historical and collection-based research, translating findings into clear, concise research briefs.
- Learn client histories, collections, and priorities to provide thoughtful archival recommendations and support client needs.
- Use digital archival and collection management tools to organize, describe, preserve, and provide access to collection materials.
- Collaborate across teams while managing multiple collections, clients, projects, and deadlines with accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Support additional Archival Services initiatives and client projects as needs and priorities evolve.
What You Bring
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or a comparable graduate degree in Archives, Archival Studies, Information Science, Public History, Museum Studies, History, or a closely related field.
- 2- 3+ years of hands-on archival processing, collections management, or closely related archival experience.
- Demonstrated experience processing, arranging, and describing archival collections.
- Experience creating finding aids, collection inventories, or other archival descriptive tools.
- Knowledge of archival description, cataloging, metadata, and preservation best practices.
- Experience conducting historical, collection-based, or primary-source research.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with digital archival or collection management tools.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, detail-oriented, and committed to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to lift and move archival materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work onsite at Heritage Werks locations in Duluth and/or Suwanee, Georgia, based on business needs.
- Ability to travel occasionally as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Archivist (CA) credential.
- Experience using archival standards and systems such as DACS, EAD, ArchivesSpace, or comparable tools.
- Experience with digitization projects, digital preservation, and/or born-digital collections.
- Experience working with corporate, brand, museum, special collections, or other historical collections.
- Experience balancing multiple collections, projects, clients, or stakeholder priorities simultaneously.
