Job description

Home Instead Colchester provides relationship-led home care to older people across Colchester and the surrounding villages. Our visits are a minimum of one hour, never rushed 15-minute calls, so our Care Professionals have time to truly know the people they support.

Our team describes us as “a family, not a franchise”, and CQC rated our staff wellbeing among the very best. We are now growing, and we want to grow without losing what makes us special. That is where you come in.

What we offer

  • £15.00 per hour, plus mileage and a clear path to full-time
  • 28 days holiday pro rata, including bank holidays
  • Company pension
  • Paid training and real career development as we grow
  • Free parking
  • Health and wellbeing support
  • Employee referral bonus
  • A supportive, close-knit team where your work visibly changes lives

The role

You will be responsible for finding, welcoming and retaining our Care Professionals as we grow to reach at least four people a month. This is not a numbers-only recruitment job: every person you bring in will be trusted in someone’s home. You will hire for values first, and help new starters feel part of the family from day one.

You will report to our Care Manager, working side by side with the scheduling and care team, with a monthly review with the owner.

What you will do

Attract

  • Plan and run recruitment campaigns across Indeed, social media, our website and the local community
  • Hold recruitment events or drop-in session’s.
  • Build partnerships with colleges, job centres, community groups and local employers
  • Run our employee referral scheme and grow a pool of ready-to-hire candidates
  • Tell our story as an employer: real people, real reasons they love the work

Select

  • Respond to every applicant within 24 hours and keep candidates warm through the process
  • Screen, interview and assess candidates for values, compassion and reliability
  • Complete all safer-recruitment checks: Enhanced DBS, references, right to work and full employment history
  • Keep recruitment records CQC-inspection ready at all times

Welcome and retain

  • Coordinate onboarding and induction with our Care Manager and training lead
  • Check in with every new starter during their first 12 weeks
  • Help match Care Professionals with clients
  • Have informal check-ins with existing Care Professionals to understand what they enjoy about their job, any concerns they have, and what would help them stay with the organization. Conduct exit interviews, and share what you learn

Measure

  • Track applications, time-to-hire, cost-per-hire, 90-day retention and net headcount growth
  • Report monthly to the management team and suggest improvements

What success looks like in year one

  • Net growth of 4 Care Professionals per month, after leavers
  • Time from application to first shift under 21 days
  • At least 85% of new starters still with us after 90 days
  • Compliance files that pass every audit first time

Hit these and the team grows fast: once we reach 40 Care Professionals, the role becomes full-time.

About you

Essential

  • Experience of end-to-end recruitment, ideally high-volume or in health and social care
  • Working knowledge of safer recruitment: DBS, references and right to work
  • Confident on social media and digital job boards
  • Warm, persuasive communicator, in person and on the phone
  • Organised, data-minded and able to juggle priorities
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car

Desirable

  • Experience in domiciliary care or of CQC standards
  • Experience with an applicant tracking system such as Smart Recruiter
  • Birdie
  • Local knowledge of Colchester and North Essex

If you have a passion for caring and the motivation to help us achieve our ambitions, we would love to hear from you.

We encourage applications from all sections of the community as we want to reflect the neighbourhoods in which we work. Home Instead is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. This role is subject to DBS enhanced disclosure.
