The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, curb management, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, and ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The Office of Livable Streets (OLS) is tasked with prioritizing strategic planning, community engagement, research, policy, design, implementation, and long-term management. Their goal is to create streets that are livable, supporting safety, accessibility, inclusion, resiliency, active modes, community cohesion, and economic vitality citywide. Additionally, they aim to enhance New York City's pedestrian, bicycle, and micromobility networks, providing comfortable, connected, green, and reliable transportation options across the five boroughs. They place special emphasis on Priority Investment Areas, mode shift, and reimagining streets. The Cycling & Micromobility Unit is responsible for the nation's largest network of on-street bicycle facilities (1,200+ lane-miles), enhancing street safety for all users, and increasing bike ridership in the five boroughs. The team's focus is the innovative redesign of city streets to expand and improve the bike network, with emphasis on improving connectivity between neighborhoods, increasing access to safe bicycle infrastructure across the city, and creating a more equitable transportation network that serves all New Yorkers.
The Cycling & Micromobility Unit is seeking an experienced and dedicated Cycling Messaging & Promotion Coordinator. Under the supervision of senior staff, the selected candidate will develop micromobility-focused content, coordinate messaging, and support outreach efforts that streamline Unit announcements and updates around bicycle projects, planning initiatives, community engagement, bicycle and greenway network expansion, and programs that encourage cycling and micromobility. This position plays a critical role in the Unit’s goal of encouraging bike ridership in New York City. The selected candidate will draft presentations, project portal content, newsletters, and web content promoting and updating the public on the work of the Unit. The candidate will collaborate with units across the agency to develop bike safety and micromobility etiquette educational campaigns. The candidate will coordinate closely with the Communications & Press Division on media inquiries, announcements, events, and public messaging. The candidate will draft talking points, fact sheets, presentations, reports, planning and project-related web content, and other external-facing materials. Coordinating with other units, the candidate will identify and act on opportunities to highlight the unit's work through visual and written materials, as well as public events. The selected candidate will maintain the Unit’s webpage and project portals, including creating and organizing content, posting updates, and ensuring information is accurate, current, and accessible to the public. The candidate will coordinate with the Unit’s Graphic Artist on the development of maps, graphics, photography, videos, and other visual materials. Additional responsibilities include announcing and promoting the Unit’s programs and events, coordinating external stakeholder working groups and supporting outreach efforts tailored to community groups, partner agencies, and advocacy organizations.
