Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION – PURPOSE OF ROLE:

The Facility & Grounds Maintenance Helper is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, organization, and appearance of company buildings and surrounding grounds. This position performs routine janitorial duties, seasonal grounds maintenance, and basic care of the tools and equipment used to complete assigned work.

The role works under the direction of senior maintenance personnel and assists in providing employees and visitors with a clean, orderly, safe, and professional environment.

Compensation

Essential Functions:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Mow, trim, and maintain lawns and grassy areas surrounding the facility.
  • Weed-eat around buildings, fences, signs, parking areas, equipment, and other areas that cannot be reached with a mower.
  • Rake leaves and remove weeds, branches, trash, and other debris from facility grounds.
  • Assist with the care of plants, flowers, trees, shrubs, walkways, and landscaped areas.
  • Perform seasonal grounds maintenance, including the removal of snow, ice, mud, and dirt when necessary.
  • Keep sidewalks, entrances, parking areas, fence lines, and other outdoor spaces clean, attractive, orderly, and safe.
  • Operate light trucks, lawn equipment, and assorted hand and power tools as authorized.
  • Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of lawn, gardening, and groundskeeping equipment.
  • Clean and maintain assigned offices, restrooms, breakrooms, production-support areas, common areas, and other facility spaces.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and clean surfaces using approved cleaning tools and products.
  • Remove and properly dispose of trash, recycling, and other waste in accordance with company procedures.
  • Restock paper products, soap, cleaning supplies, and other assigned facility supplies.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, maintenance concerns, and needed repairs to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Follow all safety procedures when operating equipment or handling cleaning products, chemicals, and waste materials.
  • Properly store tools, equipment, chemicals, and supplies after use.
  • Maintain accurate completion of assigned cleaning and grounds-maintenance schedules.
  • Assist the Maintenance Department with basic facility-maintenance tasks when trained and directed.

Qualifications and Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the position.

  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, janitorial work, landscaping, or general facility maintenance is preferred but not required.
  • Entry-level candidates with zero to one year of related work experience may be considered.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures, grounds-maintenance practices, and workplace safety is preferred.
  • Experience operating lawn equipment, light trucks, or basic power equipment is preferred.
  • Basic horticultural or landscaping knowledge is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to safely use cleaning products, tools, and assigned equipment after training.

  • Be able to prioritize routine duties and respond to changing facility or weather-related needs.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, coworkers, employees, and visitors.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail when cleaning and maintaining indoor and outdoor areas.
