Lead Software Engineer

Lead Software Engineer up to £90,000 DOE Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk<br />Working: Hybrid – minimum 3 days per week in the office An established and growing technology business is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to help shape the next stage of its engineering function.

This is a genuinely hands-on leadership role, with the majority of your time spent writing and reviewing production code. You’ll work closely with the Engineering Manager to set technical direction, improve engineering standards and mentor a talented development team.

The business is currently building a new PMS product on top of a substantial legacy .NET platform. Rather than a big-bang rewrite, the new platform is being developed incrementally, gradually taking ownership of existing functionality.

This creates an interesting engineering challenge around architecture, scalability, resilience and making sensible improvements within a live system.

You’ll have real technical authority, influencing how the new and legacy platforms evolve while helping establish stronger practices around testing, code quality, observability and AI-assisted development.

We’re looking for someone who has operated at Lead level or taken equivalent technical ownership, with strong software engineering fundamentals and experience working within complex codebases. Key skills: C#, .NET, software architecture, unit testing, code quality, mentoring, code review, CI/CD and distributed/scalable systems.
