Job Description

DevOps / Platform Engineer SME

Location: Westchester, IL
Work Arrangement: 100% Remote
Duration: 6–12 Months

Position Overview

We are seeking an accomplished DevOps / Platform Engineer SME to join our Engineering organization and lead initiatives across Application Platform Engineering, Developer Experience, CI/CD Automation, and Engineering Enablement.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience designing and operating scalable cloud platforms, modernizing CI/CD practices, implementing Infrastructure as Code, and building tools that improve developer productivity and software delivery.

This role will serve as a technical leadership position, driving architectural decisions, establishing engineering standards, mentoring engineers, and partnering closely with Development, SRE, Security, and Infrastructure teams.

Key Responsibilities

<>Platform Engineering & Tooling
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable internal developer platforms and engineering tools.
  • Architect and implement cloud-native platforms and services that enable self-service development and deployment.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and optimize third-party and open-source tools for CI/CD, source control, artifact management, testing, security, and observability.
  • Develop automation solutions for cloud infrastructure, application environments, and developer workflows.
  • Build reusable platform capabilities, templates, and tooling to improve engineering efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or related roles.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and internal developer platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a Staff Engineer, Lead Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure.
  • Extensive experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including AKS and/or EKS.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform and/or Ansible.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Go, Java, C#, or TypeScript.
  • Strong experience with .NET and/or JVM-based ecosystems.
  • Extensive experience with CI/CD platforms such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or CircleCI.
  • Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, Honeycomb, Prometheus, or Grafana.
  • Experience with developer and engineering tools including GitHub, Artifactory, and SonarQube.
  • Understanding of DevSecOps, security automation, vulnerability management, and compliance practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence technical decisions and drive initiatives without direct authority.
