Job description

The Director, Engineering FP&A – Third-Party Software & Vendor Expense Management will lead financial planning, forecasting, and management of vendor expenses across the engineering practice, with a particular emphasis on third-party software. This role will serve as a strategic partner across Engineering, Sourcing, IT Asset Management, and CFO teams to improve financial transparency, optimize spend, and strengthen decision-making.

The ideal candidate combines a strong FP&A foundation with a product mindset to navigate complex data, processes, and cross-functional operating models.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

•            Lead planning, forecasting, and ongoing management of vendor-related expenses for the engineering practice, with a primary focus on third-party software spend.

•            Partner with Engineering leaders to understand demand drivers, software usage trends, investment priorities, and cost implications.

•            Apply a product mindset to financial processes and tooling, identifying opportunities to improve user experience, scalability, transparency, and decision usefulness.

•            Build strong working relationships with stakeholders across Sourcing, Engineering, IT Asset Management, and CFO teams to align planning assumptions, contract timing, renewal pipelines, and spend governance.

•            Improve end-to-end visibility of software-related spend by analyzing data flows across financial, procurement, asset management, and operational systems.

•            Support vendor governance by helping evaluate renewals, usage trends, contract changes, and financial trade-offs.

•            Drive process improvement initiatives that enhance forecast accuracy, planning discipline, and management insight.

•            Translate complex financial and operational data into clear insights and recommendations for senior leadership.

•            Influence stakeholders across functions to adopt consistent processes, improve accountability, and support enterprise priorities.

•            Contribute to Engineering strategy discussions on productivity and long-term investment management.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

Qualifications

•            Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field; advanced degree and/or MBA preferred.

•            Significant experience in FP&A, strategic finance, expense management, or related finance roles, preferably supporting technology, engineering, or software organizations.

•            Experience managing or analyzing vendor spend, procurement-related expenses, or software investment portfolios.

•            Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting.

•            Demonstrated ability to work across large, complex organizations and influence stakeholders outside direct reporting lines.

•            Experience partnering with functions such as Sourcing, Engineering, IT Asset Management, and broader CFO organizations.

•            Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess large data sets, identify trends, and solve ambiguous problems.

•            Understanding of data quality challenges and data flows across finance, procurement, and asset management systems.

•            Ability to bring a focus on business outcomes to financial process and tooling decisions.

•            Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for finance and non-finance audiences.

•            Strong executive presence when engaging senior leadership.

Preferred Characteristics

•            Strategic thinker who can connect financial detail to broader business priorities.

•            Highly collaborative and effective in matrixed environments.

•            Comfortable navigating ambiguity and building structure in evolving processes.

•            Strong attention to detail balanced with the ability to synthesize key messages quickly.

•            Results-oriented with a focus on ownership, execution, and continuous improvement.

Example Impact Areas

•            Improve visibility into third-party software spend across the engineering organization.

•            Strengthen forecast accuracy and planning discipline for vendor expenses.
