Job Description

Inside Sales Representative

Who We Are
Hydrobuilder.com sells growing supplies online. About 25,000 of them, which means some days we're an ecommerce company and some days we're a very large garage that answers the phone. And we do answer the phone. On purpose. Our customers range from someone setting up their first tent to commercial growers ordering by the pallet, and a lot of them would rather talk to a person who knows the difference between a ballast and a driver than read another product page. We take the work seriously. Ourselves, a lot less so.

What You'll Actually Do
Pick up the phone, answer the email, and turn “just looking” into an order. Inbound is the bread and butter, but we also want you calling customers before they call us. Become the person who knows the products. Nobody knows all 25,000 (we've checked), but you'll know more than most within a few months, and you'll keep learning as new lines come in. Build quotes, send them, and follow up until they close. Proposals and contracts for bigger accounts too. Look after our Net30 customers, including making sure the “30” doesn't quietly turn into 90.

Review and verify tax exemption documents. It's not glamorous. It matters. Give customers service they'd tell a friend about. “Fine” doesn't count. Listen for what customers ask for that we don't carry yet, and bring it back to the team. Some of our best product ideas started as a phone call. Keep the CRM honest. If a call didn't get logged, it didn't happen. Work with purchasing, fulfillment, and the rest of the team so what you sold shows up the way you promised. Send a weekly update on your numbers and what you're hearing from customers and the market.

How We'll Know It's Working
You hit your sales targets, and revenue grows. New customers show up, and existing ones keep coming back. Customers get answers fast, and follow-ups actually happen. Your quotes, notes, and reports are accurate the first time. The Hard Parts (We'll Be Upfront)
The phones don't care what's on your to-do list. You'll juggle inbound calls, outbound calls, and email, and still hit your deadlines. This industry moves fast. New products, new competitors, new prices. Keeping up is part of the job. Every customer is different.

The grower with 4 plants and the grower with 4,000 need very different conversations. It's a competitive market. Customers can buy from a lot of places. Your job is to be the reason they buy from us.

What You Bring
3+ years in sales, ideally inside sales or something close to it. A track record of hitting your numbers (bring the stories). Comfort with a CRM and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). You can negotiate without being a pushover, and without being a jerk. A serious eye for detaill. You stay organized when it gets busy, and you're good on your own and on a team. You like learning new tools and new ways of doing things. We change things when we find a better way. A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, sales, or something related is a plus, not a must.

Growing experience is a bonus. We've heard every joke about what our customers grow. It's tomatoes. It's always tomatoes. One More Thing
Speaking of detail: did you catch the typo above? If you did, mention it when you apply. We read every application, and yes, we're checking. The Fine Print
Like every job, this one includes other duties as assigned by management. The role will grow as the business does.
