Storage Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and technically capable Azure Storage Migration Engineer to lead the migration of enterprise storage endpoints from public to private access. This role will serve as the primary coordinator for storage migration activities, working directly with application owners, business stakeholders, and infrastructure teams to plan, schedule, and execute endpoint transitions with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate will combine hands-on knowledge of Azure storage services and networking concepts with strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills. This individual will be responsible for managing a large inventory of storage endpoints, developing migration plans, coordinating change activities, and ensuring successful cutovers while maintaining accurate project documentation and tracking data.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage the inventory of storage file shares and endpoints targeted for migration.
• Identify and document application, business, and technical ownership for storage resources.
• Coordinate and facilitate meetings with file share owners, application teams, and business stakeholders.
• Develop migration plans detailing:
• New IP address assignments
• Network connectivity requirements
• Endpoint transition activities
• Cutover and validation procedures
• Coordinate change management activities and schedule maintenance windows with impacted stakeholders.
• Lead migration efforts transitioning Azure storage access from public endpoints to private endpoints.
• Work directly with application teams to validate connectivity and functionality following migration activities.
• Assess and retire storage endpoints that no longer have an identified owner or business requirement.
• Maintain tracking systems, migration dashboards, spreadsheets, documentation, and change records.
• Monitor migration progress, identify risks or blockers, and escalate issues as needed.
• Provide regular status updates to project leadership and stakeholders.
• Ensure migration activities are completed in accordance with organizational standards and governance requirements.

Required Qualifications

• 3-7 years of experience supporting infrastructure, cloud, storage, or migration initiatives.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Storage and Azure networking concepts.
• Understanding of:
• Private Endpoints
• Storage Accounts
• DNS considerations
• IP address management
• Network connectivity and routing
• Experience coordinating infrastructure or cloud migration projects.
• Strong organizational and project coordination abilities.
• Proven ability to manage large inventories and tracking repositories containing 1,000+ records.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, project plans, and change records.
• Strong problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience working within healthcare, regulated, or large enterprise environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure Private Link and Private Endpoint implementations.
• Familiarity with enterprise storage migration initiatives.
• Experience using ServiceNow, Azure Portal, Excel, and project tracking tools.
• Knowledge of ITIL-based change management processes.

Success Factors

The successful candidate will be capable of independently driving storage endpoint migration activities from planning through implementation, requiring only limited support from senior engineers for escalations, complex technical issues, or specialized architecture decisions. The individual must be comfortable engaging directly with business and technical stakeholders while maintaining ownership of migration schedules, communications, documentation, and execution tracking.
