Job Description

Job Title: Linux Migration Consultant (Ansible / Shell Scripting)
Location: Remote
Duration: 12 months contract

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Linux Migration Consultant to support large-scale Linux server migration projects. The consultant will perform pre- and post-migration validation, troubleshoot migration issues, and use automation to streamline server health checks. The environment may require validation of approximately 100 servers per day during migration waves.

Key Responsibilities

Perform pre- and post-migration validation of Linux servers.
  • Verify server health, application connectivity, DNS, networking, storage, file systems, SSH, services, and scheduled jobs.
  • Confirm successful cutovers and identify migration-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and Shell/Bash scripts for automated health checks and validation.
  • Troubleshoot Linux OS, networking, storage, authentication, and application issues.
  • Work with migration, application, infrastructure, and operations teams to resolve issues.
  • Document validation results, issues, and migration signoffs.
  • Support high-volume migration activities while meeting established SLAs.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of Linux/Unix system administration experience.
  • Strong experience with enterprise Linux server migrations or data center migration projects.
  • Hands-on experience with RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or SLES.
  • Strong Ansible experience for automation and server validation.
  • Strong Bash/Shell scripting skills.
  • Experience troubleshooting Linux services, logs, processes, file systems, storage, DNS, networking, SSH, and application connectivity.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working in ITIL/change management environments.
  • Ability to support high-volume migration waves and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • VMware/vSphere experience.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or hybrid cloud migrations.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, Nagios, or Zabbix.
  • Knowledge of Terraform, Puppet, Chef, or other automation/IaC tools.
  • Linux patching, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation experience.

Compensation:

The hourly rate for this position is between $47.00-$51.00per hour.
