The Role

• Interpret engineering drawings, mark off materials, and prepare plate using cutting and grinding methods.
• Assemble ship structures, ensuring accurate fitting, fairing, and tack-welding of components like bulkheads, decks, and frames.
• Fabricate essential ship items including seats, ladders, panels, and watertight doors.
• Form materials using various machine tools such as rolling, flanging, and cutting equipment.
• Contribute to the production of high-quality steelwork for critical defence projects.

What You'll Need

• A Modern Apprenticeship or Trade Papers certificate, along with relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
• Demonstrable up-to-date fabrication knowledge and hands-on experience in construction or manufacturing.
• Understanding and application of core manufacturing processes, including tack welding to safety and quality standards.
• Proficiency in operating oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
• Adherence to SHE principles and risk-assessment requirements.
• Experience working safely in confined spaces or at height, with relevant safety certifications.
