Test Engineering Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Test Engineering Manager to lead electrical testing activities for medium-voltage power distribution and protection systems.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with AC/DC functional testing, protective relays, medium-voltage switchgear, medium-voltage breakers, and arc-flash systems, along with experience leading test technicians and maintaining testing schedules, procedures, documentation, quality, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of electrical test technicians.

• Plan and maintain testing schedules in alignment with project and production requirements.

• Monitor testing progress daily and gather status updates from test technicians.

• Review project specifications and establish appropriate testing procedures.

• Review test plans and schematics with test technicians before testing begins.

• Review completed test reports and testing schematics for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures.

• Maintain test documentation and ensure completed reports and schematics are properly uploaded to project folders.

• Develop, maintain, and improve electrical test procedures, work instructions, and testing forms.

• Maintain and review electrical testing equipment inventories.

• Lead troubleshooting and problem-solving activities related to testing and quality failures.

• Identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency, quality, and turnaround time.

• Ensure test technicians follow established testing standards, procedures, and electrical safety requirements.

• Investigate and report quality failures and testing incidents.

• Maintain clean, organized, and safe testing work areas.

• Perform hands-on electrical testing of protective relay panels, medium-voltage switchgear, and medium-voltage breaker systems.

• Perform AC/DC functional testing and verification of protection and control systems.

• Test communication systems and HMI components associated with relay panels.

• Perform testing on panelboards, automatic transfer switches, fire alarm systems, air-conditioning systems, and other power-distribution equipment.

• Work closely with Electrical Engineering, Project Management, Production, and Quality teams.

• Perform additional testing and engineering responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Technical degree or equivalent education in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field.

• 7–10 years of relevant electrical testing experience, with 8+ years preferred.

• Hands-on experience performing AC/DC functional testing.

• Experience testing:

  • Protective relays

  • Medium-voltage switchgear

  • Medium-voltage breakers

  • Arc-flash systems

  • Relay protection panels

  • Power distribution equipment

• Previous experience leading or managing a team of electrical test technicians.

• Strong understanding of electrical safety procedures.

• Knowledge of applicable NEC and IEEE standards/codes.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and project specifications.

• Experience developing and reviewing electrical test procedures and test reports.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and team-leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• NETA Certification is a plus.

• Experience with medium-voltage electrical systems and power distribution.

• Experience with relay communication systems and HMI components.

• Experience with testing documentation, quality procedures, and work instructions.

• Experience in electrical manufacturing, switchgear, power systems, or industrial testing environments.
