Senior User Interface Designer - 12-Month Contract + Extensions

Locations: Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide or Hobart

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (onsite for first 6 weeks; must live within reasonable travel time)

We are seeking an experienced Senior UI Designer to join a major digital transformation program delivering accessible, intuitive and visually compelling user interfaces for high-impact government services. This role suits someone who thrives in complex environments, enjoys collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and can translate ideas into polished, interactive experiences.

About the Role

As a Senior UI Designer, you will

• Lead UI design across web and application interfaces
• Apply accessible and inclusive design principles to ensure usability for all user
• Create complex data visualisations, including graphs and map-based visualisations (DCF Level 2)
• Rapidly prototype and convert static designs into interactive code
• Establish, maintain and govern a UI component library or design system
• Facilitate workshops, user research sessions and usability testing
• Work closely with UX, product, engineering and stakeholder groups to deliver high-quality outcomes

Key Experience Required

• 2+ years' experience in a senior UI design role
• Strong capability in accessible, inclusive design and UX best practice
• Experience with data visualisation, including complex graphs and map visualisations
• Ability to produce rapid prototypes and turn designs into interactive codeExperience establishing and governing a UI component library / design system
• Skilled in workshops, user research and usability testing

Desirable Skills

• Programming / software development experience (SFIA Level 3)
• UX evaluation experience (SFIA Level 5)
