One of our clients in Washington Navy Yard, Washington, DC needs a Acoustic Engineer for a full-time position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyze underwater sound propagation, acoustic wave behavior, and sound transmission across complex undersea environments.
• Assess the physical impact of environmental factors—including water temperature, salinity, depth, and pressure—on underwater acoustic transmission.
• Evaluate and support engineering efforts around submarine acoustic signatures, platform noise reduction, and vibration control.
• Conduct underwater acoustic modeling, analysis, and testing to optimize naval acoustic performance.
• Participate in engineering-level technical discussions and program initiatives related to submarine acoustics, ship silencing, and Navy programs.

REQUIRED:

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Active Secret security clearance required.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, another technical discipline, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Direct technical background in Acoustic Engineering, Acoustical Physics, or Ocean Acoustics.
• Demonstrated understanding of the underlying physics of underwater sound propagation and acoustic wave mechanics.
• Underwater sound transmission and acoustic wave behavior.
• Environmental variables affecting sound (temperature, salinity, depth, pressure).
• Acoustic signatures, noise reduction, and vibration control.
• Underwater acoustic modeling, analysis, or testing.
• Submarine acoustics, ship silencing, or acoustic engineering within Navy programs.
• Note on Navy Sonar Experience: Candidates with Navy sonar backgrounds must have experience that clearly extends beyond operating or maintaining equipment to include applied acoustic science and engineering principles.

DESIRED:

• Basic Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Acoustics, Applied Ocean Science, Physical Oceanography, Mechanical Engineering (Vibration/Acoustics focus), Electrical Engineering (Signal Processing), Applied Physics, or related STEM discipline.
• Experience: 3+ years of professional or advanced graduate research experience directly related to underwater acoustics, ocean wave propagation, or naval platform signature management.
• Demonstrated understanding of underwater wave equations, transmission loss mechanisms, and acoustic wave behavior.
• Experience with computational acoustic modeling packages or scientific programming tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Fortran, C++).
• Knowledge of structural vibration control, noise mitigation, machinery silencing, or acoustic isolation.
• Clearance: Active U.S. Department of Defense Secret or Top Secret / SCI clearance (or eligibility).

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, another technical discipline, or a related field.
