Embeded Software Engineer

COMPANY BACKGROUND:

The company designs and manufactures continuous ink jet printers to apply identification marks such as best before dates, logos, traceability and batch codes to almost any kind of material for a wide range of industrial sectors, including food and beverage. These products are sold exclusively through a network of ~50 distributors in Americas, Europe, Middle East & Africa and Asia Pacific. Sales are in the region of $15-25m and high growth rates are expected to continue. The company, which is wholly owned by a successful UK-based publicly listed business, has ~30 employees and is based in Arlington, Texas.

OVERVIEW:

This is a very exciting and challenging opportunity for someone to join a small but very successful business. The Software Engineer will contribute to embedded firmware development for industrial printing systems and will play a key role in enhancing product performance, reliability, and the quality. The position requires a hands-on approach to software development, problem-solving, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

KEY TASKS / ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Design, develop and maintain embedded C/C++ for multi-processor/multi-threaded RTOS environments
• Analyse software performance and implement enhancements for improved efficiency and reliability
• Develop algorithms to improve print quality of the CIJ printer
• Support database-related tasks when required
• Involve in print quality improvement projects by analysing ink drop charging behaviour, interference, and environmental effects; develop algorithms to ensure consistent drop charging

COMPETENCIES

• Multi-processor communications, multi-threaded and semaphore usage in RTOS systems
• NXP/Motorola processors, FIFO, SPI, boot monitor, chip selects, Flash, RAM
• Hardware interfaces: A/D, PWM, pressure transducers, miscellaneous sensors
• Good system experience, not just applications
• System level trouble shooting
• Understanding of software design techniques
• Experience specifying requirements and specifications
• Electronic-hardware to software interfacing and microprocessor architectures from a software perspective.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• BS/BE in CS/CE/EE/EC qualification
• Good working knowledge of software, communications/networking, electronics
• Experience with test automation frameworks and scripting

DESIRABLE

• Strong understanding of Continuous Inkjet (CIJ) printer operation
• Design and creation of system test harnesses and automated testing strategies.
• Experience with embedded software testing methods
• Experience with Segger RTOS and associated Segger packages
• Familiarity with machine learning concepts
