- The new tower, a 448-bed tower, will have more than just hospital beds.
At full occupancy, the new facility is expected to offer 191 new acute care beds, 38 operating rooms, 16 procedure rooms, a pod-style emergency department with 62 exam rooms, a new heli pad, and an open core model for the nursing units on inpatient floors, designed to facilitate collaboration between workers and maximize visibility and access into patient rooms. The MRI Technologist I perform procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This equipment includes scanner, post processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment.
Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam. Prepares patients for the procedure with a full explanation and documents on appropriate worksheets. Interviews patients for a complete medical history. Reviews in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMR’s to obtain pertinent clinical history. Records medical history on requisitions. Correlates other test results and laboratory data with exam being performed. Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed. Informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition.
Assists in “code blue” procedures during medical emergencies. Performs MRI scanning and assists Physicians/PA during invasive procedures. Performs all invasive procedures in accordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection contr ol policies and procedures. Is authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer.
Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease. Adheres to the hospital fire and safety procedures. Operates radiology computer system to include entering orders and charging procedures/supplies. Documents contrast administration in the MAR. Keeps area completely stocked. Assists other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with a MRI scan.
Maintains knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff and patients while in and around magnetic fields
Education, Certification / License, Work Experience
Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology. Active enrollment in an MRI ARRT registry eligible or ARMRIT program required. MRI registry must be obtained within 1 year of hire. Demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.
Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation. Frequently may be required to stretch, bend twist, squat or kneel in the daily operation of the MRI department. May be exposed to various physical conditions throughout the day such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, being near moving equipment. Demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.
