Senior Security Control Assessor Remote Blu Omega is seeking a Senior Security Control Assessor to support a federal program focused on security and privacy control assessment support. This role operates within a remote environment and is responsible for conducting independent security control assessments and supporting system authorizations across a mission-driven environment. The position requires experience supporting RMF, control assessments, and security documentation within a highly regulated setting. Program Overview Support a federal financial regulatory environment by conducting security and privacy control assessments and contributing to the Authorization to Operate (ATO) lifecycle in alignment with the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF).
Key Details Location: Remote (must be based in the DC Metro area for badging and equipment pickup/support) Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust suitability determination Responsibilities
- Conduct independent security control assessments in accordance with NIST SP 800-37 and NIST SP 800-53
- Evaluate technical, operational, and management controls for effectiveness
- Support system authorizations (ATO), including reviewing security documentation such as SSPs and POA&Ms
- Identify and document risks and compliance gaps; provide mitigation strategies
- Analyze impacts of system or network changes on existing security posture
- Participate in governance and risk review boards; advise on security implications
- Verify proper implementation of security controls in coordination with system owners and engineering teams
- Support vulnerability assessments, compliance audits, and configuration reviews
- Contribute to RMF documentation lifecycle, including CONOPS, security plans, test plans, and risk assessments Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of cybersecurity experience
- Experience conducting security control assessments and supporting the RMF lifecycle
- Knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 and NIST SP 800-37
- Experience with risk assessment and threat modeling
- Experience with security control validation and testing
- Experience with POA&M tracking and remediation planning
- Experience with vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., Nessus, Qualys)
- Understanding of secure network and system architectures
- Experience reviewing and developing security documentation
- Familiarity with enterprise IT systems, cloud services, and network infrastructure
- Master's degree or equivalent certifications and experience
Preferred Qualifications
