Quick Overview
Job Description
Emergent builds autonomous coding agents that replace traditional software development by generating, testing, and deploying production applications directly from plain-language intent. Our systems run in production at global scale and are used to build millions of real applications.
Since our public launch, we've crossed $130M in Annualised Revenue and grown to over 10M users across 190+ countries, who have built 12M+ applications on Emergent. We're backed by Creaegis, Khosla Ventures, SoftBank, Lightspeed, Together, Y Combinator, Google, Claypond and Sentinel Global.
We're solving the hard part of AI-driven software creation: correctness, reliability, security, and scale in real production systems. The team is built by repeat founders, Olympiad medalists, IIT & IIM alumni, and leaders from Google, Amazon, and Dropbox.
We're hiring builders who want ownership, speed, and impact at global scale.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automated tests for web applications, APIs, and end-to-end user journeys.
- Build reusable automation frameworks, utilities, and test infrastructure that scale with product complexity.
- Develop and maintain UI automation using Playwright or similar modern automation frameworks.
- Write automated API and integration tests covering functional behavior, error scenarios, and edge cases.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and improve execution speed, reliability, and feedback time.
- Identify product risks early and work with developers and product managers to improve testability and prevent defects.
- Investigate test failures, perform root cause analysis, and improve automation stability.
- Use AI-assisted development and testing tools to improve test creation, debugging, coverage, and maintenance.
- Test AI-powered product workflows, including dynamic UI behavior, generated outputs, failure scenarios, and regression risks.
- Take end-to-end ownership of quality for assigned features, from requirement analysis to release validation.
- Track automation coverage, defect trends, and test reliability to continuously improve quality.
Required skills and experience
- 3–6 years of experience in software testing, test automation, or SDET roles.
- Strong programming skills in Python or TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience with Playwright, or an equivalent browser automation framework.
- Good understanding of API testing, REST, HTTP, JSON, authentication, and integration testing.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated test execution.
- Strong understanding of test design, boundary-value analysis, negative testing, and risk-based testing.
- Experience building or extending reusable automation frameworks.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate failures using logs, traces, and network requests.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and product managers in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong ownership, attention to detail, and clear communication.
Good to have
- Experience testing AI-powered applications or LLM-based features.
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants and agent-based testing approaches.
- Experience with mobile automation, performance testing, or observability tools.
- Experience with Docker, cloud environments, and distributed systems.
