Location: Cottersmore and North Luffenham

A quick look at the role

As an HWRC Operative at our Cottesmore and North Luffenham Household Waste Recycling Centres, you'll play an important role in ensuring the site operate safely, efficiently and in line with operational requirements.

You'll work directly with members of the public, helping them use the sites safely providing guidance on the correct disposal of waste and recycling materials. You'll be part of the team responsible for maintaining clean, safe and welcoming sites, while ensuring residents receive a professional and helpful service.

Your Core Responsibilities

  • Support the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the Household Waste Recycling Centres.
  • Assist members of the public with the safe disposal of waste and recyclable materials.
  • Direct and control site traffic to ensure the safe and in accordance with site procedures and training.
  • Ensure waste is deposited correctly and sites remain clean, tidy and well organised.
  • Maintain site records and complete relevant paperwork accurately.
  • Monitor activities on site and report any incidents, unsafe behaviour or unauthorised use.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and represent Biffa in a professional and positive manner.
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental and operational procedures at all times.
  • Work as part of a team to maintain high standards of service across the sites.
  • Carry out additional duties and tasks as directed by management.

Our Essential Requirements

  • Working as a team to collect waste from designated collection points and returning containers where necessary.
  • Any other tasks as requested by your manager.
  • Able to competently operate machinery
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • UK driving licence
  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety and able to follow health and safety procedures

Additional Responsibilities

In addition to the primary role as a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) Operative, you may be required to undertake operational duties at the main Rutland depot. These duties may include support street cleansing activities and working as part of municipal waste and recycling crews, helping to maintain essential environment services across the local area.
