Senior Embedded Software Engineer with Security Clearance

About the Opportunity Our client is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of a next-generation military flight simulator. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge simulation technology that provides immersive training capabilities for military aviators. The position focuses on embedded and real-time software development, software architecture, systems integration, and testing within a Linux-based environment.

A key aspect of the role involves modernizing legacy software by porting functionality from a Fortran-based platform to a modern Linux operating environment running on new hardware. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded and real-time software applications supporting advanced flight simulation systems.
• Modernize and migrate legacy software from Fortran-based environments to modern Linux platforms.
• Design, implement, and enhance software architecture for high-performance simulation systems.
• Integrate software components with hardware and external system interfaces.
• Perform software testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Support system verification, validation, and deployment activities.
• Contribute to technical documentation and software design reviews. Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Strong experience developing embedded and/or real-time software systems.
• Proficiency in C or C++ development, (candidates with significant Fortran or Ada experience will also be considered)
• Experience developing software in Linux environments).
• Strong background in software design, integration, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting flight simulation, aerospace, defense, or military training systems.
• Experience with Docker or other containerization technologies.
• Familiarity with the Joint Synthetic Environment (JSE).
• Experience working with avionics communication protocols such as: MIL-STD-1553,

ARINC 429, or similar aerospace and defense interfaces
