Quick Overview
Job Description
ENODA’s world-class team are building the first truly decentralised, intelligent energy system that will reshape how we generate, store, and distribute energy.
Foundational to our holistic and integrated platform approach, the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger, is a first-of-a-kind dynamic power flow hardware designed to maintain “on-target” frequency and voltage, increasing grid efficiency and capacity for distributed energy sources like renewables and EVs.
Enoda ENSEMBLE™ is our ecosystem co-ordinator of ENODA and third-party assets, able to forecast, aggregate, and bid capacity in real time, functioning as a networked “operating system” for the electrical grid.
This is more than simply managing electricity flow. It is about creating the foundational system to prepare for a radically more capable, prosperous, and intelligent future.
We have an opportunity for an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in Edinburgh.
As part of the Microelectronics & Embedded Systems Team, this role will oversee real-time control and networking firmware for our next-generation hardware platforms.
- Design, implement, and test embedded C code for real-time applications running on microcontrollers and DSPs.
- Interface directly with hardware components (e.g., ADCs, DACs, sensors, communication interfaces).
- Participate in peer reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback with an open mind.
- Contribute to system-level debugging and bring-up, including low-level hardware-software integration and fault analysis.
- Document and share knowledge through well-structured code comments, design notes, and Confluence pages.
- Excellent C programming skills with solid design practices - modular, testable, and maintainable code.
- Strong understanding of RTOS concepts (TI-RTOS, FreeRTOS, or similar), including task scheduling, synchronisation, and handling of race conditions, deadlocks, and starvation.
- Proven experience with hardware interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet, and GPIO.
- Confident in hardware debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and serial tools.
- Proficient with Git, Bitbucket, and JIRA for source control and issue tracking.
- Comfortable working with existing codebases, refactoring legacy code, and adhering to coding standards.
- A clear and proactive communicator who collaborates well across teams and disciplines.
- The ability to work independently, while collaborating effectively in cross-functional teams.
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience with lwIP or other TCP/IP stacks.
- Exposure to industrial protocols (Modbus, MQTT, CAN, etc.).
- Experience working with TI microcontrollers (C2000, Cortex-M) or similar SoCs.
- Base salary circa £60,000 - £80,000 dependent on skills & experience
- Private Medical Insurance
- Flexible Pension policy tailored to your requirements
- 33 days annual leave + Holiday purchase/sell scheme
- Dental cash-back scheme
- Cycle-to-Work scheme
- Season travel ticket loan
- Enhanced company sick pay & Income Protection
- Life Assurance
