Job Description

At JC Davis Ventures, LLC dba JC Davis Power, we keep work moving with smart, reliable solutions that allow our people and our partners to stay safe, focused, and ahead. Powering a jobsite shouldn't be a hassle. But too often, crews are left waiting, equipment breaks down, vendors go dark, and deadlines slip.

We started JC Davis Power to fix all of that. We're a full-service jobsite operations partner, delivering and maintaining temporary power, climate control, and tower lighting. All with one reliable crew. No handoffs. No confusion.

We show up, solve problems, and do the work the right way. Whether you're supporting customers in the field, building systems behind the scenes, or helping drive the business forward, you'll be part of a team that values reliability, accountability, and getting the job done.

Simple - Reliable - Done Right!

The Role

The Equipment Buyer owns the acquisition of new and used rental fleet assets and power distribution equipment for JC Davis Power. This role is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and purchasing generators, climate control equipment, light towers, distribution gear, and supporting assets that grow and refresh our rental fleet across multi-state operations.

This is a capital procurement role. The Equipment Buyer works with fleet leadership and operations to convert the fleet plan into executed purchases, securing the right units at the right price with delivery dates that meet customer commitments. Success in this role means fleet availability stays ahead of demand, capital dollars go further, and every asset arrives ready to be put to work.

This is a full-time, salaried exempt position reporting to the Senior Buyer/Expeditor within the Supply Chain function.

What You Will Work On

New Equipment Procurement

  • Source and purchase new generators, climate control units, light towers, distribution equipment, and associated rental assets from OEMs, authorized dealers, and manufacturer direct channels

  • Translate fleet requirements into complete purchase specifications, including kW rating, voltage and phase configuration, emissions tier, sound attenuation, fuel tank capacity, mounting configuration, and required options

  • Solicit and evaluate competing quotes; build side-by-side comparisons on price, lead time, spec compliance, warranty, and total cost of ownership

  • Track new build production slots and factory lead times; place orders early enough to protect deployment schedules

  • Negotiate unit pricing, volume terms, payment terms, freight, warranty coverage, and delivery commitments

  • Maintain relationships and national account pricing agreements with major OEMs and dealer networks

Used Equipment Sourcing

  • Actively monitor the used market for acquisition opportunities, including dealers, brokers, auction houses, fleet liquidations, and private sales

  • Evaluate used units on hours, service history, load bank results, cosmetic and structural condition, remaining useful life, and required reconditioning cost

  • Build acquisition cases that compare used purchase price plus refurbishment against new unit cost and availability

  • Coordinate pre-purchase inspections with maintenance and reliability personnel; arrange third-party inspections where needed

  • Represent JC Davis Power in auction bidding within a pre-authorized dollar limit, escalating to Supply Chain leadership only when a unit exceeds that limit

Distribution & Power Accessories

  • Procure temporary power distribution equipment including distribution panels, spider boxes, transformers, breakers, camlock and DLO cable, connectors, and associated accessories

  • Maintain distribution inventory levels against forecasted project demand and standing fleet ratios

  • Verify that all distribution purchases meet applicable NEC, UL, and jobsite safety requirements

  • Identify substitutions and alternate suppliers when lead times threaten project mobilization dates

Deal Execution & Coordination

  • Issue purchase orders, verify pricing and terms, and route documentation for approval per company policy

  • Coordinate with finance on funding method, lease versus purchase decisions, and capital approval documentation

  • Manage titles, MSOs, serial numbers, VINs, and registration documentation for all acquired assets

  • Arrange freight, heavy haul, and oversize permitting for inbound equipment to yard and shop locations

  • Confirm receipt, verify unit condition and spec compliance on arrival, and resolve discrepancies with vendors

  • Complete warranty registration and hand off complete asset records for system onboarding and PM setup

Reporting & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate procurement records, vendor files, purchase history, and equipment pricing benchmarks

  • Report on capital spend against budget, unit acquisition cost trends, lead times, and vendor performance

  • Ensure all purchases comply with company procurement procedures, approval thresholds, and regulatory requirements

  • Support continuous improvement in acquisition cost, lead time, and procurement workflow

What We Are Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred

  • 10+ years of purchasing or procurement experience, with direct exposure to capital equipment, fleet, or heavy equipment acquisition

  • Working knowledge of mobile power generation, climate control, or temporary power distribution equipment; ability to read spec sheets, parts lists, and equipment drawings

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate used equipment condition and value

  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing favorable pricing and terms on high-dollar purchases

  • Proficiency within Netsuite ERP or other enterprise asset management software

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple open orders, delivery dates, and competing priorities

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities and consistent follow-through

  • Experience in equipment rental, oilfield services, construction equipment, or industrial equipment distribution

  • Familiarity with EPA emissions tiers and how they affect equipment selection and resale value

  • Experience with auction platforms and used equipment marketplaces

  • Understanding of DOT, heavy haul, and oversize load transport requirements
