Job description

Senior C++ Software Engineer - Contract Role - OUTSIDE IR35

  • 6 months initially (with a view to extend)
  • Fully Remote
  • Outside IR35

I'm currently looking for an experienced Senior C++ Software Engineers to join a technology consultancy working on the modernisation of an established, business-critical software platform.

The project involves a legacy Windows-based case management application, which is undergoing a migration from an on-prem environment into Microsoft Azure.

We're looking for someone with a strong background in C++ and Windows application development, who is comfortable working with existing codebases, solving complex technical problems and supporting the move towards a cloud-hosted platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role, but with the opportunity to take technical ownership, contribute to design decisions and support other developers within the team.

What you'll be doing:

  • Developing, maintaining and improving an established C++/Windows application.
  • Supporting the ongoing lift-and-shift migration from on-premise infrastructure into Azure.
  • Investigating and resolving complex technical issues across the existing platform.
  • Contributing to solution design, architecture and technical decisions.
  • Working with CI/CD pipelines and helping improve build and release processes.
  • Reviewing code, sharing knowledge and mentoring other engineers.
  • Working closely with engineering, platform and infrastructure teams to manage technical dependencies.

What we're looking for:

  • Strong commercial experience developing applications using C++.
  • Solid background in Windows desktop application development, ideally working with legacy or established systems.
  • Hands-on Microsoft Azure experience, ideally involving cloud migration, application deployment or integration.
  • Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines, build processes and release automation.
  • Experience maintaining, modernising or integrating legacy software applications.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving and technical design skills.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of complex work and supporting other engineers where needed.

This would suit a senior engineer who enjoys getting into the detail of established applications, understanding how they work and helping modernise them, rather than someone looking for a purely greenfield development role.

If you're an experienced C++/Windows Software Engineer with Azure exposure and you're open to your next contract, please apply or get in touch for more information.
