Job Description Summary

The Primary System Engineer is the technical guarantor of the proper performance of design works conducted for high voltage (HV) substations, in matter of committed design budget (man days), deadline and Quality, in line with Customer expectation, while promoting ease of installation, operation and maintenance of the system.

The Primary System Engineer plans basic and detailed design activities, manages & oversees detailed execution progress, delivers required engineering documentation for procurement, manufacturing and site erection associated to concerned activity, based on Customer specifications and requirement, internal standards and coordinates elaboration of documents done internally or through subcontracting.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Designing and integrating essential components for High Voltage & MV AIS and GIS Substation and Power Generation in compliance with international and Australian Standards.
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams for efficient substation layout implementation, and design calculations.
  • Developing comprehensive design specifications and supporting procurement activities.
  • Managing project strategies, risks, and customer relationships for successful project delivery.
  • Ensuring streamlined documentation management and facilitating effective design processes.
  • Collaborating with construction teams to incorporate valuable design insights for enhanced project outcomes.
  • Managing engineering subcontractors for specific work packages.
  • Carry out site inspections and supervision to validate the design, manufacture and installation.
  • Witness factory testing.
  • Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues.
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate EHS leadership and ensure Zero Deviation Plan is implemented within the team.
  • Identify and evaluate EHS risks in own area and implement practical measures.
  • Participate in hierarchical/team safety visits and lead EHS improvement initiatives.
  • Set objectives and measure results to encourage EHS performance as a contributing factor to reach business objectives.
  • Set the example by demonstrating proper acts and actively observe work conditions and behaviours, give constructive feedback and celebrate EHS effective prevention.
  • Actively participate in defining corrective actions when work is unsafe or when an uncontrolled risk is observed.
  • Routinely observe routines and behaviours of others and provide immediate feedback regarding unsafe behaviour and celebrate achievements or safe behaviours.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Science or Engineering, with major in electrical engineering.
  • At least 4-5 years' working experience in AC substation engineering, such as design, calculation, HV equipment selection, and supervision of site testing & commissioning.
  • Experience of a leading role in managing engineering activities is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Australian and IEC standards related to power systems and equipment.
  • Ability to travel onsite will be required. Expected to be up to 20% depending on business need.
