Quick overview
Job description
High performance isn't a given. It’s built on standards.
Standards that have driven McLaren for over 60 years.
And if you’re ready for the challenge, that standard is yours to own.
Burning enthusiasm. Constant improvement. The thrill in the pursuit of better.
That’s how we build a legacy. And how you build a career here.
Because racing isn’t just something we do. It’s who we are.
We are racers.
Are you?
What You'll Do
Join our race for performance as an experienced Internal Communications and Engagement Lead, partnering with F1 Technical and the Team Principal Office.
This is a high-impact role for someone who can build credibility quickly, understand a complex technical environment and turn business priorities into clear, relevant communications that help people perform at their best and deliver performance to track.
You’ll be a trusted communications partner to senior leaders, helping shape how strategy, performance priorities, organisational change and leadership messages are understood throughout the F1 Team. You’ll combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, providing constructive challenge, equipping leaders to communicate effectively and helping technical teams understand how their work contributes to wider performance objectives.
Based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, you’ll operate at the heart of our Formula 1 organisation, moving confidently between long-term communications strategy and precise, high-quality delivery.
Principal Accountabilities
- Develop and execute the Internal Communications strategy for F1 Technical and the Team Principal Office, tailoring the approach to the needs of each area.
- Partner closely with senior and executive leadership to understand priorities, provide communications counsel and shape effective leadership narratives.
- Improve communication flow across F1 Technical by identifying gaps, duplication and fragmentation, establishing clearer channel purposes and communication rhythms.
- Translate complex technical, organisational and cultural priorities into communications that are clear, useful and actionable.
- Develop and publish creative content and campaigns across McLaren Racing’s communication channels, writing and editing targeted messages for varied audiences.
- Support communications around organisational evolution, culture, reliability, leadership, technology and other priorities affecting F1 Team performance.
- Provide targeted communications support to the Team Principal Office, including leadership messaging, debrief communications and selected race-related content.
- Champion cultural initiatives and strengthen employee connection to the company’s mission.
- Lead multiple cross-functional, high-impact communications projects while maintaining high standards under demanding deadlines.
- Monitor and evaluate communications activity, using metrics and learning to improve impact and effectiveness.
- Support organisational change through clear communications while protecting and reinforcing cultural principles.
- Build trusted stakeholder relationships, continuously improve communications processes and mentor junior members of the team.
What You'll Bring
You’ll bring significant experience in Internal Communications or a related field. Experience within sport, engineering or technology is desirable.
You’ll also bring:
- Demonstrated success using internal communication channels, innovative tools and technologies to support communications.
- An understanding of organisational culture and the role communications plays in shaping, reinforcing and protecting it.
- Familiarity with cultural frameworks, diversity and inclusion principles, and employee engagement strategies.
- Excellent copywriting and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt communication style and tone of voice for different internal audiences.
- The ability to translate complexity into clear, compelling communication without losing important detail.
- Experience in change management and evolving workplace culture is desirable.
- Experience engaging employees through different formats, including events, film and photography.
- Proven ability to manage multiple ongoing projects and changing priorities.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft products, including Teams and SharePoint.
- The credibility and judgement to work with technical specialists, people managers and executive leaders, including on sensitive and fast-moving subjects.
- A proactive, accountable and collaborative approach, with strong attention to accuracy and confidentiality.
Success in racing comes from bringing together talented people with different skills, perspectives and experiences. We're committed to building an inclusive environment where everyone feels supported and empowered to deliver their best work.
Every role has the potential to drive high performance. You'll be part of a team united by a shared ambition to push boundaries and embody our racing mindset. We invest in our people through opportunities to develop and grow, creating an environment where individuals and teams can thrive.
Alongside a range of wellbeing initiatives and development opportunities, we're committed to helping you build a rewarding career and make your mark at McLaren Racing.
