Job Description

Under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Manufacturing Quality Engineer I is responsible for developing and maintaining quality control plans, establishing inspection criteria, assisting with incoming and in-process inspections, performing root cause analysis and driving continuous improvement to eliminate defects in the production process. The QE I will also participate in cross functional projects to improve product quality by participating in the new product development process, data collection and analysis, and evaluating/utilizing quality systems and tools. This position will work with the ME team, manufacturing, R&D and strategic business units (SBUs) to help maintain quality objectives and drive continuous improvement.

Quality Engineering:

Conduct/assist in incoming and in-process inspections on critical components

Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective action for product, process, and customer complaint-related concerns or issues

Assist the ME manager in maintaining the quality management system

Occasional travel to customer sites to determine the root cause of reported issues and provide a solution, satisfying the customer

Work with R&D and manufacturing to support the implementation of improvements and monitor the success

Utilize the basic tools and principles of continuous improvement to solve problems and analyze data

Collect and analyze data from available databases to monitor product quality and manage improvement plans

Improve current work processes and assist others when necessary

Travel and Communication:

Travel to customer sites (domestic) as needed

Maintain Work Practices:

Maintain work area to 5S standards as posted in work area

Promote a positive team atmosphere with coworkers

Marginal Job Functions:

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor's degree or related field preferred or equivalent experience.

Experience:

3 years quality related experience preferred

Experience working with Work Wise, SAP or other similar ERP systems

Experience working with technical support, quality departments, and R&D to troubleshoot and document issues

A quality-related ASQ certification is preferred

Six Sigma certification is preferred

Experience with product testing, root cause analysis and problem-solving preferred

Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft office products; Word, Excel, and Outlook in particular

Ability and willingness to travel domestically

Excellent written and verbal communication skills - technical writing experience a plus

Excellent organizational skills - data analysis experience a plus

Ability to work well with numerous diverse groups and individuals

Ability to manage tasks to completion and participate in teams to solve issues

Ability to operate effectively in an ambiguous and often changing environment
