Job Description

The Opportunity

This position is ideal for someone who is motivated by uncapped earning potential, entrepreneurship, and the opportunity to eventually own and operate a business.

Your primary focus will be generating new business and closing solar and battery storage projects. You will work directly with residential and commercial property owners, identify opportunities, develop proposals, negotiate deals, and guide customers through the sales process.

Once a project is sold, you will remain involved through the project pipeline—working with customers and our fulfillment partners to help ensure projects are completed successfully.

For the right person, there is also an opportunity to earn equity in Team Solar and potentially transition into ownership of the business. The owner is open to working with a qualified candidate on a path toward business ownership, including a potential owner-financed purchase of the company.

This is an opportunity for someone who sees themselves not just as a salesperson, but potentially as the next owner/operator of an established solar business.

Primary Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

Identify and develop new residential and commercial solar and battery storage opportunities.

Prospect for new customers through networking, referrals, outreach, partnerships, and other business development strategies.

Meet with residential and commercial property owners to understand their energy needs and develop appropriate solutions.

Present solar PV and battery energy storage solutions to prospective customers.

Prepare proposals, negotiate pricing and terms, and close new projects.

Maintain an active sales pipeline and consistently pursue new opportunities.

Develop referral relationships and strategic partnerships that generate new business.

Represent Team Solar professionally and build a strong reputation in the markets we serve.

Project & Customer Management

  • Manage sold projects through the sales-to-installation pipeline.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers and keep them informed about project status.
  • Coordinate with installation and fulfillment partners to ensure projects move forward efficiently.
  • Help resolve customer questions, project issues, and unexpected challenges.
  • Track project milestones and ensure necessary documentation and information are completed.
    • Follow projects through completion and ensure Team Solar receives payment in a timely manner.
    • Maintain strong relationships with our fulfillment partners and help ensure they view Team Solar as a reliable, professional partner.

Business Development & Growth

    • Identify new markets, products, partnerships, and opportunities for Team Solar.
    • Help develop strategies to increase sales volume and profitability.
      • Identify opportunities to improve the company's sales and operational processes.
      • Develop long-term customer and partner relationships.
      • Contribute ideas and take ownership of initiatives that can grow the business.
    • Potential Leadership / Ownership Responsibilities
    • As the successful candidate demonstrates performance, initiative, and leadership, the role can expand significantly.
    • The long-term opportunity may include:
      • Managing the day-to-day operations of the business.
      • Taking greater responsibility for sales, financial performance, and strategic growth.
      • Building and managing a sales organization.
      • Expanding Team Solar's geographic footprint.
      • Developing new revenue streams and strategic partnerships.
      • Earning an ownership stake in Team Solar.
      • Potentially transitioning into full ownership of the company.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Highly motivated and entrepreneurial.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of results.
  • An excellent salesperson and communicator.
  • Comfortable asking for the sale and negotiating with customers.
  • Organized and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Persistent and comfortable with prospecting and business development.
  • Professional and trustworthy when dealing with customers and business partners.
  • Financially motivated and excited by significant earning potential.
  • Interested in building something rather than simply filling a job.
  • Willing to invest the time and energy necessary to grow a business.
  • Comfortable working in a commission-driven environment.
  • Able to build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, and business partners.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous sales experience, particularly in solar, energy, construction, real estate, or another consultative sales environment.
    • Experience selling to residential or commercial property owners.
    • Knowledge of solar PV, battery storage, electricity markets, or the energy industry.
    • Experience managing projects after the sale.
    • Existing relationships within the Maine or Massachusetts business or real estate communities.
    • Demonstrated history of exceeding sales goals.
    • Experience running a small business or entrepreneurial venture.
    • Solar industry experience is preferred but not required. The most important qualifications are sales ability, initiative, organization, and the desire to build and grow a business.

Compensation

This position is primarily commission-based, providing significant upside for a successful salesperson and entrepreneur.

Expected annual earning potential: $75,000–$250,000+

Your compensation will be directly tied to your ability to generate and close profitable business. There is no artificial ceiling on what a high-performing individual can earn.

The opportunity is particularly attractive for someone who is confident in their sales ability and wants their income to reflect the value they create rather than being limited by a traditional salary structure.

In addition to commission compensation, equity and/or an ownership path may be available for the right candidate.

Benefits & Perks

  • $75,000–$250,000+ earning potential based on performance.
  • Primarily commission-based compensation with substantial upside.
  • Opportunity to earn equity in Team Solar.
  • Potential pathway to full ownership of the business.
  • Potential owner financing arrangement for the purchase of the business for a qualified candidate.
  • Work with an established network of solar installation and fulfillment partners.
  • Opportunity to build your own book of business and long-term income stream.
  • Significant opportunity to expand the company's existing business.
  • Autonomy and the ability to make meaningful business decisions.
  • Opportunity to work in the rapidly growing solar and energy storage industry.
  • Direct access to the current owner and an opportunity to learn the business from the person who built it.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

Most sales jobs give you a territory, a quota, and a commission plan.

This one can give you a business.

Team Solar has an established operating model, customers, industry relationships, and fulfillment infrastructure already in place. The opportunity is to take an established platform and grow it.

There are significant opportunities to increase sales, expand into new markets, develop additional customer acquisition channels, grow the commercial business, expand battery storage offerings, and build a larger sales organization.

For the right person, the ultimate opportunity isn't simply to become Team Solar's best salesperson—it's to become Team Solar's next owner/operator.

If you are an entrepreneurial salesperson who wants to build significant income today while potentially building equity and ownership for tomorrow, we'd like to talk to you.
