Job Description

Investment Associate

New York, NY

About the Opportunity

A leading long-term investment platform is seeking an Investment Associate to join its growing team in New York. The firm focuses on acquiring and building software and technology-enabled businesses through a patient ownership model that emphasizes operational improvement, strategic growth, and lasting value creation.

Unlike traditional private equity funds, the organization invests with a long-term horizon and substantial permanent capital resources, allowing investment professionals to focus on company building rather than managing toward predetermined exit timelines.

This is an opportunity to join a lean and collaborative investment team with direct access to senior decision-makers and meaningful involvement across the full investment lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Investment & M&A Execution

  • Evaluate acquisition opportunities across software and technology sectors
  • Build detailed financial models, valuations, operating forecasts, and investment return analyses
  • Participate in all stages of transaction execution from initial diligence through closing
  • Prepare investment memoranda, presentations, and recommendations for senior leadership
  • Conduct market research, industry analysis, and competitive assessments
  • Coordinate with management teams, lenders, consultants, and third-party advisors

Due Diligence & Investment Analysis

  • Perform financial, operational, and commercial diligence on prospective investments
  • Analyze recurring revenue business models, customer retention, growth drivers, profitability, and operating performance
  • Assess transaction risks and identify opportunities for value creation
  • Develop investment theses and support acquisition recommendations
  • Evaluate company performance through key software and SaaS operating metrics

Portfolio Value Creation

  • Support portfolio company initiatives following acquisition
  • Assist with strategic planning, operational improvements, and growth projects
  • Monitor company performance against investment objectives
  • Evaluate add-on acquisitions and strategic expansion opportunities
  • Work alongside management teams to drive long-term growth and value creation

Qualifications

Required

  • 2-4 years of experience in Investment Banking, Private Equity, Growth Equity, Corporate Development, or a related investing role
  • Strong M&A transaction experience
  • Advanced financial modeling and valuation skills
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Bachelor's degree with a strong academic record

Preferred

  • Experience evaluating software, SaaS, or technology businesses
  • Prior buy-side investing experience
  • Exposure to control-oriented transactions
  • Familiarity with recurring revenue business models and software operating metrics
  • Interest in long-term investing and company building

What Makes This Opportunity Unique

  • Permanent capital investment structure
  • Long-term ownership approach rather than traditional investment holding periods
  • Significant exposure to software and technology investments
  • Direct interaction with senior leadership
  • Lean team with substantial responsibility and visibility
  • Involvement across investing, M&A execution, and portfolio value creation
  • Opportunity to help build enduring businesses rather than preparing companies for exit
