Quick Overview
Job Description
About us
Forus is building an AI-powered network that connects doctors, pharmacies, payers, and biopharma to accelerate new science to patients.
Our platform automates the complexity between a doctor prescribing a medicine and a patient starting treatment, including insurance coverage, financial assistance, and supply chain navigation. We provide this support free to doctors and patients, helping them get life-changing medicine faster, cheaper, and easier. The resulting network enables biopharma companies to design better research, launch new drugs more effectively, and invest in harder-to-treat conditions.
Forus has exceptional product-market fit and is growing rapidly through organic adoption:
Accelerating scale: We already support patients across more than 80% of ZIP codes and partner with 5 of the 10 largest biopharma companies in the world.
AI-native, durable model: Our business becomes stronger as AI improves, as every new doctor, patient, and partner makes the network more valuable.
Backing to build for the long term: We raised $160M+ from leading investors to build an exceptional team and unlock the full scale of the opportunity.
Our number one priority is scaling to market demand. We are looking for individuals who are high horsepower, high throughput, and hyper resourceful to help us increase capacity and grow. We move fast and need to move faster.
If we succeed, science will be the only limit to medicine.
All full-time roles are in person in New York.
About the role
As an Engineering Manager at Forus, you will lead a team that owns a core part of the infrastructure between scientific innovation and patient care. This is a technical player-coach role: you will write code, review designs, make architecture calls, and take on hard technical problems alongside your team, while also owning who is on the team, how they develop, the quality and pace of what they build, and ultimately whether their work moves the business.
The engineering problems at Forus span user-facing product, complex backend systems, AI and agents, data, and enterprise deployment. Our software has to absorb enormous variation across providers, medicines, payers, pharmacies, clinical systems, and enterprise environments; reason over messy information; interact with systems we do not control; and reliably execute real-world workflows where the happy path is rarely the only path.
We are currently hiring managers across three areas:
Provider Product & Growth - Build the core product providers and their staff use every day and drive its adoption, activation, engagement, expansion, and organic growth. The challenge is making an extremely complicated underlying system feel simple while supporting everyone from independent practices to some of the largest provider organizations in the country
Core Platform & Automation - Build the backend systems that power Forus and execute the work behind every prescription, spanning workflow and state systems, integrations, data and document infrastructure, operational tooling, and AI- and agent-powered subsystems. The challenge is building reliable software across long-running, branching workflows with enormous real-world variation and external systems that frequently behave unpredictably
Life Sciences Engineering - Build products with leading biopharma companies to help innovative medicines reach more patients. We have more customer demand and product opportunities than we can pursue, so the work starts with deciding where technology can create the most value and build the biggest businesses, then building with customers and turning the best ideas into products that scale across medicines and companies. Over time, we are working toward becoming a critical technology and execution layer across the full lifecycle of medicine
This is a demanding role, with a high level of autonomy and responsibility. You will be expected to "act like an owner" and commit yourself to Forus' success. If you are low-ego, hungry to learn, and excited about intense, impactful work that drives both company growth and accelerated career progression, we want to hear from you.
If you join, you will:
Own your team's outcomes end to end, from problem definition and technical design through launch and whether it creates measurable value for users and the business
Stay hands-on, writing and reviewing production code, leading architecture decisions, and taking on hard or ambiguous problems yourself when that is the fastest path forward
Hire, source, sell, close, and onboard engineers, and own the bar for your team; Recruiting is a first-order part of this job
Develop the engineers on your team; Set clear expectations, give direct feedback, and make people meaningfully better than they were when they arrived
Work directly with providers, life sciences partners, and our operations team; You will be expected to fully understand and internalize the needs of your users and build for them
Raise the ceiling on how your team builds with AI, and push the team to always be experimenting with more productive ways to develop software
We’re looking for you if you have:
6+ years building software, with a track record of shipping products that real users depend on
2+ years leading engineers, with clear accountability for both team output and the growth and performance of the people on it
Full-stack range. You have built and operated the backend systems and the interfaces on top of them, and you can make credible calls across the whole stack
A real hiring track record. You have recruited strong engineers who joined in part because you were the one selling the role
The ability to go from an ambiguous business problem to a clear, structured, shipped solution
A track record of moving quickly, finding shortcuts, and going to unreasonable lengths to deliver on goals
High NPS with your former teammates and reports
This is a list of ideal qualifications for this position. If you don't meet every single one of them, you should still consider applying! We’re excited to work with people from underrepresented backgrounds, and we encourage people from all backgrounds to apply.
Working with us
Forus is based in New York, with our full team working out of a beautiful and spacious office in SoHo.
We run as a high-trust environment with high autonomy, which requires that everyone is fully competent and operates in line with our principles:
Do the math. Be rigorous, assume nothing. Break problems down and reason from the ground up. Stay open to changing your mind.
Resourceful optimism. Assume problems are solvable. Be audacious. Resist false constraints and push beyond the obvious before deciding.
Spit it out. Speak directly, invite critique, avoid equivocation. We want right answers, not comfortable ones. All killer, no filler.
Raise the bar. Hold a high standard for your pace and execution, and elevate the performance of the team around you. Mamba mentality.
Fight for users. Start with users’ realities, not ours. Resist optimizing for internal convenience over user outcomes.
We provide competitive compensation with meaningful equity (for full-time employees). Everyone who joins will be a major contributor to our success, and we reflect this through ownership and pay.
We also provide rich benefits to ensure you can focus on creating impact (for full-time employees):
Fully covered medical, vision, and dental insurance.
Memberships for One Medical, Talkspace, Teladoc, and Kindbody.
Unlimited paid time off (PTO) and 16 weeks of parental leave.
401K plan setup, FSA option, commuter benefits, and DashPass.
Lunch at the office every day and Dinner at the office after 6:30 pm.
Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our company’s size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other opportunities at Forus (for full-time employees). Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity.
Forus is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national origin, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, pregnancy or related condition, or any other basis protected by law.
