About the Position

 

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to provide database application support and IT services across the agency.

 

The Database Administrator will serve as an assistant agency DBA and will be responsible for Microsoft SQL Server administration, database maintenance, reporting support, T-SQL development, application troubleshooting, and server/system support. The role will work closely with project managers, application developers, agency staff, and external partners to understand requirements, support applications, resolve technical issues, and maintain reliable and secure IT systems.

 

The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively and should have the ability to maintain and enhance existing applications and code developed by other team members.

Required Qualifications

Progressive professional experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration and database support.

Strong experience with T-SQL programming and database development.

Hands-on experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).

Experience performing database administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance support.

Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and update existing code written by other developers.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to investigate technical issues, identify root causes, and implement appropriate solutions.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to provide effective end-user technical support.

Ability to rapidly adapt to new systems, technologies, and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with .NET Framework / .NET Standard 4.8+ and Visual Basic.
