The Opportunity: Field Service Engineer

Contract: Permanent

Location: Maidenhead

Neckar Forklifts is a leading materials handling specialist, delivering sales, service, maintenance, and fleet management solutions across the UK. Renowned for its customer-focused approach and engineering expertise, Neckar helps customers maximise productivity through reliable equipment and expert support.

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the proactive maintenance, servicing, and repair of HYG equipment and associated products, covering both company-owned and customer-owned fleets within your technical capability. You will play a key role in maximising equipment uptime by diagnosing faults, identifying root causes, and implementing effective, cost-efficient solutions. Through your expertise, you will ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational, delivering excellent service while minimising downtime and supporting long-term customer satisfaction.

The Impact you will have:

  • Attend customer sites to assess equipment issues, determine the scope of work required, and agree priorities with the customer, always ensuring safe working practices are followed.

  • Maintain clear and proactive communication with both the customer and the service controller throughout the repair process, providing accurate updates on the work required, expected timescales, and associated costs.

  • Diagnose equipment faults efficiently, identify root causes, and secure the correct replacement parts in the most cost-effective manner. Utilise all available technical resources, including manufacturer support and the Briggs Technical Team where required.

  • Carry out all maintenance, repair, and diagnostic work in accordance with engineering best practices, company procedures, and manufacturer specifications and tolerances.

  • Conduct quality checks and inspections throughout the repair process to ensure work is completed to a high standard, and that equipment is safe, reliable, and fully operational before being returned to the customer.

  • Identify additional repair, maintenance, or safety requirements and communicate these clearly to the customer, ensuring they are fully informed of any potential costs. Proactively identify opportunities for additional chargeable work where equipment damage or wear has been identified.

  • Complete all job cards, service reports, and associated documentation accurately and promptly, ensuring all required customer approvals, signatures, and supporting documentation are obtained.

  • Deliver exceptional customer service at all times, building strong customer relationships and promoting confidence in the company's products and services.

What will help you to excel in this role:

  • Relevant engineering qualification in a mechanical, electrical, automotive, plant, agricultural, materials handling, or related discipline.

  • Proven experience in a field service, maintenance, workshop, or similar engineering role, with a strong track record of diagnosing and repairing equipment.

  • Sound understanding of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems, with the ability to fault-find and resolve technical issues efficiently.

  • Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.

  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet customer and business expectations.

  • Customer-focused approach, with the ability to build positive relationships, understand customer requirements, and deliver high levels of service.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing effective solutions.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to customers and colleagues.

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites as required.

  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and quality in all aspects of work.

What you can expect from us:

  • 40-hour working week.
  • Overtime paid at x1.5 Monday–Saturday and x2 on Sundays.
  • Company vehicle available for private use (subject to applicable tax).
  • Opportunities for future development and career progression.
  • Contributory pension scheme with employer contributions.
  • 25 days' annual leave
