Senior Environmental & Social Consultant (m/f/d) - Sustainable Finance
Quick Overview
Job Description
As our new Senior Environmental & Social Consultant (m/f/d), you will join Ramboll's Sustainable Finance team within the Global Impact Assessment, Biodiversity & Ecosystems Service Line.
Based in Germany, you will support lenders, investors, development finance institutions (DFIs), export credit agencies (ECAs), multilateral institutions, and project sponsors in the successful development, financing, and implementation of major infrastructure investments. Our work focuses particularly on environmental and social risk management for project-financed transactions and other complex investment structures, helping clients navigate international lender requirements and sustainability expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
You will work on high-profile infrastructure projects across sectors including renewable energy, conventional energy, transmission and distribution, transport, water, industrial facilities, digital infrastructure, and other strategic developments. Assignments are located in Germany, across Europe and worldwide.
In this role, you will combine deep technical expertise with project leadership, strategic client advisory, business development, and the mentoring of colleagues. You will play an important role in shaping project delivery, strengthening client relationships, and supporting the continued growth of Ramboll's Sustainable Finance practice.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering Independent Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) assignments for project-financed and other investment transactions in accordance with international lender standards, such as the IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, OECD Common Approaches, and other international environmental and social frameworks.
- Managing and contributing to Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), gap analyses, environmental and social audits, monitoring assignments, and lender advisory mandates.
- Advising financial institutions, investors, DFIs, ECAs, sponsors, and corporate clients on environmental and social risks, opportunities, and compliance strategies throughout the investment lifecycle.
- Acting as project manager for complex national and international assignments, including responsibility for project planning, resourcing, budgeting, quality assurance, risk management, and client communication as well as leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Identifying and pursuing business development opportunities, including leading the preparation of technical and commercial proposals, client presentations, and tender submissions.
- Mentoring, coaching, and supporting junior and mid-level consultants, fostering technical excellence and professional growth across the team.
- Promoting Ramboll's commitment to health, safety, sustainability, quality, and ethical business conduct in all project activities.
About You
