Your purpose will be:

To lead and support the Steward (kitchen porter) team, ensuring all back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and organisation. The Senior Steward acts as the first point of contact for kitchen porters, delegating tasks, monitoring performance, and supporting management in delivering smooth operations.

  • Lead by example, working alongside the porter team during shifts
  • Delegate daily duties and ensure tasks are completed to the required standard
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and on‑the‑job training to new and existing porters
  • Conduct pre‑shift briefings when required and maintain clear communication
  • Monitor porter performance and report any concerns to management
  • Comply with all Health and Safety at Work regulations, including COSHH and Manual Handling, and attend all required training sessions
  • Maintain consistently high standards of personal hygiene and grooming
  • Assist in preparing and distributing operating equipment for functions, inventories, and other requirements
  • Oversee cleaning and dishwashing operations during service
  • Ensure all back‑of‑house areas (dish wash, pot wash, bin areas, stores, locker rooms, corridors, event spaces) remain clean, safe, and well‑organised
  • Support stock rotation (FIFO), chemical checks, and delivery storage
  • Ensure waste segregation and recycling standards are followed
  • Step in to cover porter tasks during staff shortages or peak service times
  • Ensure porters follow COSHH guidelines and use chemicals correctly
  • Check PPE usage and report any shortages or damaged items
  • Monitor compliance with hygiene, food safety, and fire safety standards
  • Report hazards, accidents, or equipment faults immediately to managers
  • Ensure daily and weekly cleaning checklists are completed, signed off, and properly filed
  • 1-3 years’ experience in the Hospitality Industry
  • Intermediate communication skills, both written & verbal.
  • Intermediate computer skills, include Microsoft Office, and mobile App basic usage.
  • Able to work well under pressure in fast-paced and changing environment
  • Proven organizational skills, work well on their own, able to set and meet deadlines with quality results.
  • Willing to work on rotating shifts including weekends and public holidays
  • A confident & dynamic speaker, able to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of an organization
