CAD Design Engineer ( Mechanical Plant Rooms)

Salary: £50,000 – £75,000 basic (Depending on Experience) + Pension, 22 Days Holiday, Ongoing Training & Career Progression

Mechanical Services Contractor, with a strong and stable order book secured through 2027 , are seeking a practically minded, mechanically biased CAD Design Engineer who has Plant Room Design experience.

Joining a close-knit, 5-strong design and delivery team you will bridge the gap between engineering design and practical project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Modelling & Coordination: Produce accurate 2D/3D plant room layouts, schematics, and pipework arrangements using AutoCAD (Primary) and Revit (Occasional).
  • Constructability & Specification: Review design inputs, calculate spatial/containment requirements, and specify mechanical equipment (boilers, chillers, pumps) in close collaboration with Project Managers.
  • Clash Detection: Collaborate with structural, electrical, and architectural teams to resolve spatial conflicts digitally before materials hit the site.
  • Site & Subcontractor Liaison: Conduct site surveys, work alongside site installation teams to troubleshoot practical issues, and amend drawings for as-built documentation.
  • Compliance: Ensure all drawings and layouts adhere to UK Building Regulations, CDM regulations, and safety guidelines.

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven CAD/modelling experience gained specifically within a Mechanical Services Contractor environment.
  • An understanding of mechanical building services, plant room constructability, and basic pipe stress/routing constraints.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential; exposure to Revit or 3D coordination tools is advantageous.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the confidence to liaise with site teams, and interpret technical specifications
