The Marketing Strategist is a senior market intelligence and strategic marketing professional with approximately 5 plus years of experience, ideally within electronics materials, electronic assembly materials, specialty chemicals, or related B2B technology markets.
This role translates market, customer, competitive, and technology intelligence into actionable business strategies and growth initiatives. The position combines market analysis with direct customer engagement, segmentation, Voice of Customer (VOC) research, competitive intelligence, and strategic opportunity development. The successful candidate will be highly analytical and commercially oriented, with the ability to move beyond collecting data to identify where the company should compete, which customers and applications to prioritize, what customers value, and what actions will drive growth.
Key Responsibilities
Market Intelligence & Market Sizing
Develop and maintain market intelligence across electronics materials and electronics assembly markets, including conformal coatings, thermal interface materials, adhesives, sealants, encapsulants, cleaners, soldering materials, and other specialty materials. Conduct TAM, SAM, market share, growth rate, and market attractiveness analyses by application, technology, geography, customer, and end market. Identify emerging markets, technologies, applications, and customer needs that represent attractive growth opportunities.
Analyze market trends, technology adoption, regulatory developments, supply-chain changes, and macroeconomic factors affecting target markets. Establish market attractiveness frameworks incorporating market size, growth, profitability, competitive intensity, technical fit, customer access, and strategic fit. Customer & Market Segmentation
Develop customer, application, market, and end-use segmentation strategies. Segment customers based on revenue potential, application requirements, technology adoption, purchasing behavior, profitability, geography, and strategic importance.
Identify and prioritize target customer segments and high-value accounts. Develop customer profiles that clarify needs, buying criteria, decision-making processes, and competitive positioning. Translate segmentation analysis into actionable go-to-market strategies, account priorities, product strategies, and resource allocation decisions. Identify underserved customer segments and whitespace opportunities where the company can differentiate.
Voice of Customer & Customer Insights
Lead Voice of Customer (VOC) programs with OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, EMS companies, contract manufacturers, distributors, engineers, designers, purchasing organizations, and other stakeholders. Conduct structured customer interviews, surveys, field research, and customer discovery to understand customer pain points, unmet technical and commercial needs, product and purchasing criteria, competitive perceptions, technology adoption drivers, switching barriers, price/value perceptions, and future product requirements.
Develop structured VOC methodologies and ensure customer insights are consistently captured and translated into meaningful business intelligence. Identify recurring customer needs and distinguish between individual customer requests and broader market opportunities. Develop customer journey and buying-process maps to understand technical, commercial, and purchasing decisions. Competitive Intelligence
Monitor competitors, technologies, products, pricing, capabilities, partnerships, acquisitions, investments, and strategic positioning. Develop competitive profiles and benchmarking analyses.
Identify competitor strengths, weaknesses, market positions, and differentiation opportunities. Maintain an ongoing view of who is winning, who is losing, why, and where market share is moving. Translate competitive intelligence into recommendations for product positioning, pricing, portfolio strategy, and commercial tactics. Strategic Growth & Opportunity Identification
Identify and evaluate new market and application opportunities for the company's electronics materials portfolio. Develop market-entry and expansion strategies for attractive adjacent markets.
Evaluate opportunities based on TAM/SAM, growth, margins, customer fit, competitive landscape, technical requirements, and internal capabilities. Contribute to the development of business cases and strategic recommendations for new products, technologies, applications, customers, and markets. Identify cross-selling and portfolio expansion opportunities across existing customers and applications. Support strategic and annual business planning processes.
Sales & Commercial Support
Provide Sales with market intelligence, customer insights, competitive information, and application-specific value propositions. Support strategic customer meetings and major opportunity development where deeper market or technical insight is required. Identify opportunities to expand customer relationships into additional applications or product categories. Qualifications
5 plus years of professional experience in strategic marketing, market intelligence, business strategy, product marketing, or a related function.
Experience in electronics materials, electronics assembly materials, specialty chemicals, electronic components, or adjacent B2B technology markets strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience in market segmentation, customer segmentation, TAM/SAM/SOM analysis, competitive intelligence, and market forecasting. Proven experience conducting Voice of Customer research and customer interviews with technical and commercial stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to translate customer and market insights into actionable business strategies, product priorities, and commercial tactics.
Experience working with OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, EMS/CMs, distributors, or other participants in complex B2B technology supply chains. Strong understanding of technical products and ability to communicate effectively with engineers, scientists, purchasing professionals, sales teams, and executives. Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including experience building market models and analyzing complex datasets. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills.
Ability to independently develop a point of view and make recommendations rather than simply report information. Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously. Education
Bachelor's degree required. MBA, technical, engineering, chemistry, materials science, or related advanced degree preferred.
