Senior Oracle Cloud Database Administrator
Location: Onsite Gaithersburg, MD
Employment Type: Full-Time OR Independent Contractor (1099)
Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Oracle Cloud Database Administrator (OCI DBA) with 10+ years of enterprise database experience to join our team on-site in Gaithersburg, MD. In this role, you will lead the architecture, migration, security, performance tuning, and operational stability of Oracle databases deployed on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and hybrid environments.
This position is open to both Full-Time W2 employees and Independent Contractors (1099) requiring on-site presence at our Gaithersburg facility.
Core Responsibilities
  • OCI Database Architecture & Operations: Design, deploy, configure, and maintain Oracle Database Cloud Services (DBCS), Autonomous Database (ADW/ATP), and Exadata Cloud Service (ExaCS) on OCI.
  • High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Architectural design and operational management of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions using Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Oracle Data Guard / Active Data Guard.
  • Complex Database Migrations: Lead end-to-end cloud migrations of enterprise on-premises Oracle databases (11g/12c/19c/21c/23c) to OCI using Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM), Oracle GoldenGate, RMAN, and Data Pump.
  • Advanced Performance Tuning: Diagnose, isolate, and resolve complex database performance issues using AWR, ASH, ADDM, Execution Plans, SQL Tuning Advisor, and OCI Observability & Management suite.
  • Backup, Recovery & Data Protection: Maintain robust backup/recovery strategies via Oracle RMAN integrated with OCI Object Storage for point-in-time recovery, compliance, and disaster testing.
  • Security & Compliance: Enforce enterprise database security standards, including Oracle Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Database Vault, Data Masking, Audit Vault, IAM integration, and CPU/RU patch management.
  • Automation & Infrastructure as Code: Automate database deployment, provisioning, and operational runbooks using Terraform (OCI Provider), Ansible, and Python/Bash scripting.
  • Cost & Capacity Optimization: Manage OCI OCPU auto-scaling, resource allocation, and storage parameters to optimize compute performance and cloud expenditure.
  • On-Site & Escalation Support: Provide hands-on database support, work closely with local infrastructure engineering teams in Gaithersburg, MD, and serve as the senior escalation point for critical database incidents and root cause analysis (RCA).
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Total Experience: 10+ years of hands-on experience as an Oracle Database Administrator in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • OCI Specialty: 3+ years of dedicated experience managing Oracle databases on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Location & Work Mode: Must be based near or willing to commute on-site to our Gaithersburg, MD location.
  • Core Oracle Expertise: Expert-level mastery of Oracle Database architecture (19c/21c/23c), Multitenant architecture (CDB/PDB), Oracle RAC, Active Data Guard, RMAN, and Data Pump.
  • OCI Infrastructure Knowledge: Deep experience with OCI Database Services (Base Database Service, Exadata Cloud Service, Autonomous Transaction Processing / Autonomous Data Warehouse).
  • Migration & Replication: Proven track record of executing low-downtime/zero-downtime migrations using Oracle GoldenGate, RMAN cross-platform transport, or Oracle ZDM.
  • IaC & Automation: Strong practical scripting skills using Terraform for OCI provisioning alongside Python or Bash.
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (as a direct W2 employee or as an incorporated 1099 contractor).
