Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Contract Design Engineer to support the development of innovative engineered products, taking designs from initial concept through to production. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with knowledge of CREO to contribute to product development within a technically focused engineering environment.

Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, suppliers and testing specialists, you will be responsible for producing high-quality designs, detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation, ensuring products meet performance, quality, reliability and manufacturing requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and refine engineering designs from concept through to production.

  • Produce accurate 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings and supporting technical documentation.

  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), component specifications and associated engineering data.

  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation and design records.

  • Select appropriate materials and components, balancing performance, cost, reliability and manufacturability.

  • Support product validation and testing activities, including the preparation of test specifications where required.

  • Apply engineering methodologies, including Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (D-FMEA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and risk assessment.

  • Work closely with manufacturing teams, suppliers and external testing specialists to resolve technical issues and improve designs.

  • Provide technical input throughout the design and development process.

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cost reduction and product optimisation.

  • Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards, quality requirements and applicable regulations.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.

  • At least five years' experience in a design engineering or product development role.

  • Strong experience using 3D CAD software, ideally Creo or equivalent packages.

  • Proven experience producing detailed engineering drawings, 3D models and technical documentation.

  • Knowledge of engineering materials, component selection and design principles.

  • Experience with D-FMEA, FEA, risk assessment or similar engineering analysis techniques.

  • An understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling and design for manufacture.

  • The ability to develop practical, robust and cost-effective engineering solutions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external suppliers.

  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver engineering outputs to agreed deadlines.
