Quick overview
Job description
๐ฃ About Airgoods
Airgoods is building the future of food and beverage distribution.
Today, we help thousands of independent grocers and specialty food stores (like Butterfield Market, Happier Grocery, and Meadow Lane) discover, order and sell gourmet and emerging brands (like Fishwife, David, and Sourmilk).
We started in January 2023 and have since raised $7M from top investors like Y Combinator and Initialized Capital. Our office is near Madison Square Park in New York City.
๐๏ธ About the opportunity
Getting a great product onto the shelf is only half the battle. Shoppers have to try it. Airgoods runs in-store demos for emerging food and beverage brands at some of the best specialty grocers in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
As a Demo Specialist, you're the face of the brand for the day. You set up a tasting table, tell shoppers what makes the product special, and turn samples into sales. You choose which demos you take and when, and you earn more the more you sell.
What a demo looks like
Arrive at the store and set up the demo table with the materials provided
Sample the product, share the brand's story, and help shoppers find something they love
Take photos of your table and setup with your smartphone
Note what shoppers say: favorite flavors, questions, reactions
Break down and send a quick recap (shopper feedback and photos)
How it works
You're an independent contractor (1099). We share open demos and you accept the ones that fit your schedule.
Demos are mostly on weekends and weekday evenings. Most demos run 3 hours on the floor, plus a short setup and breakdown.
There's no minimum and no cap. Many specialists take around 2-3 demos a week. This works best if you can take more than one demo per month.
Product information is provided ahead of each demo so you know what you're sampling.
๐ฐ Compensation
$75 per 3-hour demo + 20% of the retail price of every unit sold during your demo, based on the store's sales data
The better you sell, the more you earn. For example, sell 10 bottles of $30 olive oil during a demo and you earn $75 + $60 commission = $135
๐ Who you are
You're comfortable starting conversations with strangers and genuinely enjoy it
You get excited about specialty food and beverage, the kind of person who browses the shelves of a trendy gourmet grocer for fun
You're reliable: when you accept a demo, you show up on time and ready
๐ ๏ธ What you bring
Must haves
Availability for at least a few hours on weekends or weekday evenings
A smartphone for photos and recaps
Ability to get to stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn
Bonus points
Prior sales or brand ambassador experience
Experience in retail, food service, or hospitality
Interest or experience in startups or CPG
๐ Beyond the demos
Optional monthly networking events with startup founders, operators, and CPG brand owners
Access to startup resources (readings, lectures, and more) if youโre curious about working at a startup
Optional 1:1s with the Airgoods founders and team
Get to know our team, and be the first to hear when weโre hiring full-time
Don't see a perfect fit?
Reach out anyway. Exceptional talent always has a home at Airgoods.
