Introduction for Estimating Engineer
Industrial Connected Talent is supporting an established foundry and metal manufacturing business in the search for an Estimating Engineer.
This role is responsible for reviewing customer enquiries and preparing accurate, technically robust and commercially competitive quotations. You will interpret engineering drawings, specifications and CAD information to assess manufacturing feasibility, calculate costs and support profitable business growth.
Responsibilities for Estimating Engineer
As Estimating Engineer, you will manage enquiries from initial receipt through to quotation submission. You will work closely with sales, manufacturing, suppliers and other internal teams to ensure technical requirements, subcontract costs and commercial considerations are fully understood.
Prepare accurate quotations covering materials, tooling, processes, finishing and inspection
Issue RFQs to subcontract suppliers and incorporate returned costs into quotations
Maintain supplier pricing, estimating information and customer data within the ERP system
Support new product introduction through cost estimates, BOMs and manufacturing routings
Review manufacturability and identify potential cost-saving or process improvement opportunities
Work with sales and operational teams to clarify technical and commercial requirements
Occasionally attend customer meetings to support technical discussions
Requirements for Estimating Engineer
The ideal candidate will have an engineering background and the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and manufacturing documentation. This role would suit an experienced estimator or an engineer looking to move into a technical and commercially focused position.
Ability to understand engineering drawings, symbols and technical documentation
Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills
Organised, accurate and commercially aware approach
Good communication skills and willingness to work across multiple departments
Strong willingness to learn about manufacturing processes and estimating systems
Experience in engineering costing or technical estimating would be advantageous
Knowledge of investment casting, forging, MIM or related manufacturing processes would be beneficial
Familiarity with 3D viewing software, metals and material composition would be advantageous
