Location: New York City (Hybrid)
Compensation: Up to $350,000+ based on experience, credentials, and portable business

A well-established New York law firm is seeking a Bankruptcy Partner to join and help expand its bankruptcy and restructuring practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney seeking a platform with strong support, sophisticated work, and the ability to play a meaningful role in the continued growth of the practice.

Position Highlights

  • Opportunity to play a key role in a growing bankruptcy and restructuring practice.
  • Candidates do not need to currently hold the Partner title to be considered. Experienced Counsel, Senior Associates, and Partner-level attorneys with significant bankruptcy experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Portable business is preferred for certain senior-level candidates but is not required.
  • Hybrid work environment with a collaborative and entrepreneurial culture (3 days in office).
  • Competitive compensation structure with merit-based bonuses and business origination incentives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent debtors, secured lenders, creditors, landlords, tenants, trustees, private equity funds, hedge funds, and other stakeholders in bankruptcy and restructuring matters.
  • Handle Chapter 11 reorganizations, Chapter 7 liquidations, claim objections, plan confirmation matters, and related litigation.
  • Advise clients on pre-bankruptcy planning, out-of-court workouts, receiverships, and assignments for the benefit of creditors.
  • Counsel clients in connection with distressed assets and special situations, including:
    • Distressed debt restructurings
    • Distressed real estate acquisitions
    • Debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing
    • Claims trading
    • Section 363 sales
    • Loan-to-own strategies
  • Prosecute and defend avoidance actions, clawback litigation, and other bankruptcy-related disputes.
  • Handle complex commercial litigation matters within and outside bankruptcy proceedings, including foreclosure actions, fraud claims, securities disputes, unfair competition claims, employment-related disputes, and other high-stakes business litigation.
  • Work collaboratively with attorneys across litigation and transactional practice groups.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 7 to 10+ years of bankruptcy, restructuring, and insolvency experience.
  • Strong experience representing clients in Chapter 11 matters and related litigation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sophisticated matters with significant responsibility.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, litigation, and courtroom skills.
  • Experience working directly with clients and developing case strategy.
  • Admission to practice in New York required.
  • Portable business is preferred for partner-level candidates; candidates with approximately $500,000+ in portable business are of particular interest.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation up to $350,000+, depending on experience, credentials, and business generation.
  • Firm-wide billable expectation of 1,750 hours.
  • Merit-based bonus structure.
  • Additional incentives for business origination.
  • Hybrid work schedule with regular in-office collaboration.
