Job Description

 

We are currently seeking a Part Time Farm Technician to join our team of highly qualified professionals that share our vision of Empowering Children to Conquer their World! This role provides maintenance and light construction on the farm property, buildings, and infrastructure; animal management; maintaining equipment, materials, and supplies; and working with the Director of Exterior Facilities and Grounds to identify new opportunities for increasing business, yields, or collaborations. The Farm Technician should also have the desire to create a professional network and keep abreast of developments in agricultural science, market gardening, and animal welfare.

What you will do:

  • Maintain up to date and accurate records of crop successes and failures, chemical treatments, and maintenance in the garden and orchard.
  • Execute the management plan of the farm property, including seed starting, transplanting, fertilization, animal care, and other tasks.
  • Present educational curriculum to facilitate learning opportunities and interactions with the grounds for students.
  • Maintain landscaping including mowing, weedeating, trimming, planting and maintaining flowers, applying mulch, and regularly weeding all lawn and garden areas to ensure a clean, well-kept appearance. (This may vary by site.) 
  • Conduct power washing and other means of cleaning/maintenance to maintain an appropriate overall appearance of the exterior of the farm. 
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. 
  • Complete duties through established standard operating procedures for the farm. 
  • Maintain regular communications with leadership on farm needs, status of identified tasks, scheduled activities, and concerns. 
  • Apply new and relevant knowledge to the job as necessary or applicable. 
  • Provides support to the overall site, by working with the Senior Director in assisting with activities, i.e., fishing, marketing, general maintenance trash to the road, as well as other activities.

Education/ Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in agriculture or gardening; especially sustainable agriculture, preferred. 

 

Skills/ Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide variety of people.
  • Must be able to work with clients birth to age 21 and their families. 
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a very busy environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies, and other company documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of families and team members.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. 
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work and function in an unpredictable weather environment, including cold, hot, and wet conditions. 

 

Essential Physical Requirement:

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required to accurately communicate information and ideas so others will understand through sight and hearing. The team member is regularly required to move including walking, running, jumping, and sitting. The team member is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, lift, reach, and feel. The team member is frequently required to stand and stoop, twist, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The team member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.If the team member is working at a Farm location, they must be comfortable around standard farm animals, including minimal allergies to touching, smelling, feeding, and engaging with animals. The team member must be able to work and function in an unpredictable weather environment, including cold, hot, and wet conditions. 

 

Work Environment: 

This work environment can be hazardous, requiring the team member to be always mentally awake and alert. Hazards include operating equipment and farm machinery that can cause severe injury or death; handling dangerous chemicals which can cause damage to human health or the environment if improperly used; and the risk of injury from livestock, snakes, spiders, and other living creatures.
