The Role

• Interpret engineering drawings, mark off materials, and prepare plate using methods such as oxy‑fuel cutting and hand grinding.
• Assemble ship structures, including shell, decks, bulkheads, frames, and longitudinals, ensuring accurate fitting and fairing.
• Fabricate various ship items such as seats, ladders, false flooring, panels, hatches, and watertight doors.
• Form materials using machine tools including rolling, flanging, and cutting equipment.
• Contribute to the production of high-quality steelwork for essential defence projects.

What You'll Need

• Modern Apprenticeship certificate/Trade Papers and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
• Demonstrable up-to-date fabrication knowledge and hands-on experience in construction or manufacturing.
• Understanding and application of core manufacturing processes and tack welding.
• Confident and responsible operation of oxy‑fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
• Adherence to SHE principles and risk assessment requirements.
• Experience working safely in confined spaces or at height, with relevant safety certifications.
