We are seeking a Warehouse Design & Automation Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced warehouse automation solutions within a large-scale manufacturing environment. This role will focus on warehouse design, material flow optimization, robotics integration, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), and operational automation from concept through commissioning.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in warehouse automation technologies, robotics, material handling systems, and industrial engineering principles, with experience supporting manufacturing, converting, packaging, or distribution operations.
Key Responsibilities

• Design and redesign warehouse operations, including storage strategies, capacity planning, and technology selection.
• Develop automation solutions for warehouse operations, including put-away, picking, conveying, storage, and retrieval systems.
• Lead projects from concept development through installation, commissioning, and final handover.
• Define project scope, schedules, budgets, and cost estimates.
• Collaborate with project managers, fabrication teams, plant personnel, and external vendors.
• Evaluate and select warehouse automation technologies including ASRS, robotics, AMRs, AGVs, conveyors, vision systems, and related controls.
• Develop and maintain relationships with OEMs and automation equipment suppliers.
• Support integration with WMS, WES, WCS, Plant IT, and manufacturing systems.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Value Stream Mapping methodologies.
• Participate in simulation modeling activities and analyze "what-if" scenarios to improve warehouse efficiency and performance.
• Manage installation and commissioning activities while ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
• Provide post-implementation support, troubleshooting, and technical guidance.
• Identify new automation opportunities across manufacturing and warehouse operations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
• Experience designing warehouse automation and material handling solutions.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (ASRS)
  • Conveying systems

  • Order picking and put-away automation

• Experience with:
  • Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs)

• Knowledge of warehouse software and system integration including:
  • WMS

  • WCS
• Understanding of advanced robotics concepts including:
  • Human-robot collaboration

  • Fleet management systems
• Strong understanding of controls engineering concepts and industrial automation architectures.
• Experience supporting equipment procurement, installation, start-up, and commissioning activities.
• Excellent project management, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within converting, packaging, consumer products, paper, film, nonwoven, or manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of jumbo roll storage, handling, retrieval, and packaging operations.
• Experience with simulation and digital modeling tools.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience managing relationships with global automation OEMs and system integrators.
