Senior Economic and Insights Adviser

• Salary: $116,413 - $140,849 (plus superannuation)
• Tenure: Fixed term (external applicants) / Temporary Assignment (internal DJSIR employees) / Secondment (VPS employees external to DJSIR) - 3 years
• Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available)
• Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street (flexibility may be available)

The Role

We are looking for a highly skilled, motivated and collaborative Senior Economic and Insights Adviser to lead a broad range of projects across diverse topic areas. The role provides specialist economic, statistical and strategic analysis and advice to support program delivery and help shape government policy and investment. You will provide authoritative, evidence-based advice to senior stakeholders and translate complex economic and data analysis into clear, actionable insights that inform policy and decision-making. The role requires strong quantitative and analytical skills, sound judgement and the ability to work collaboratively on fast-moving policy issues, while mentoring and guiding junior team members.

Main Accountabilities

• Undertakes complex independent scientific, technical or specialist work and analysis.
• Provides advice and analysis that influences policy development.
• Develops briefs on highly complex issues that provide options for discussion and consideration and contribute to the development of final options for decision.
• Applies innovative thinking and analysis to influence developments within the area of responsibility.
• Initiates and maintains relationships with peer and senior internal and external stakeholders and manages and leads projects.

The Team

The position of Senior Economic and Insights Adviser forms part of the Industry Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Talent Branch within the Industry, Trade and Investment Group.

The Industry, Trade and Investment Group works closely with businesses locally and globally to grow Victorian jobs, drive innovation and increase Victoria's international competitiveness. The Industry Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Talent Branch is responsible for delivering the Victorian Government's industry development agenda, developing policies and delivering programs that drive sustainable economic growth and workforce inclusion.

About You

You will have strong data literacy, with the ability to derive value from data sets to support immediate and future decision-making, including expertise in basic data models or algorithms. You will have experience formulating and communicating public policy options and recommendations, developing clear narratives for policies and business cases, and defining problems and objectives. You will also bring strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives and deliver effective solutions.
