Software Developer C++

Are you an experienced Software Development Lead looking for an opportunity to combine hands-on software engineering with technical leadership?

We are seeking a talented Software Development Lead to lead a team of engineers developing a business-critical investment management and workflow platform used within a global investment business.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll take ownership of the application, drive technical delivery and help shape the development of a sophisticated, multi-layered technology ecosystem.

The Role

You will lead the Newcastle-based development team, working closely with colleagues across London and New York. Alongside providing technical direction, you'll remain actively involved in development, ensuring high standards of engineering and successful delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing day-to-day technical leadership to a team of software developers.
• Remaining hands-on with software development, particularly C++ or Rust.
• Taking ownership of application development, technical delivery and ongoing support.
• Leading code reviews and establishing best practices.
• Mentoring and developing engineers, supporting recruitment and onboarding.
• Working closely with support teams and business stakeholders.
• Collaborating with international development teams to deliver continuous improvements.

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years' software development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with C++ or Rust (essential).
• Experience developing complex, business-critical applications.
• A strong understanding of full-stack engineering and working across different technologies.
• Previous experience providing technical leadership or mentoring developers.
• Experience taking ownership of applications and the development lifecycle.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.

Additional experience with Java, TypeScript, Angular or JavaScript would be advantageous.

Financial services, investment management or Order Management System (OMS) experience would be beneficial but is not essential. We are open to exceptional software engineers from other industries.
