Job Description

Software Developer / DevOps Engineer (JVM)

W2 Contract

Pay Rate: $50 - $60 per hour

Location: Cupertino, CA - Hybrid Role

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on Java and Spring Boot application development. This is the core of the seat and the reason the team is hiring.

  • Building CI/CD pipelines and deploying to Kubernetes. The engineer needs enough Kubernetes knowledge to take on deployment and cluster-component tasks when assigned.

  • Observability and monitoring work. The team is investing heavily to reach three-nines to four-nines availability, so instrumenting and monitoring applications is a large part of the job.

  • Code-first on-call. When something breaks, this person is expected to read the application code, find the defect, and fix it directly. The legacy approach of treating the app as a black box and working only from metrics and logs is exactly what the team is moving away from.

  • Working across teams. Platform teams serve internal engineering customers across WPC, so this person handles inbound requests and stakeholder friction.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Strong hands-on Java with solid core development fundamentals (OOP, data structures, clean code). Candidates must be able to open unfamiliar application code and understand the logic on their own.

  • Spring Boot development experience. Microservice-style services preferred.

  • 3+ years (minimum) of software development experience.

  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines: Jenkins or CodeDeploy.

  • Container technologies: Docker and containerd.

  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes is sufficient to deploy services and manage cluster components.

  • Backend development in Unix/Linux environments.

  • Strong written and verbal communication, effective across teams and regions.

  • Comfortable with a live coding screen. The first interview includes a 30-45 minute coding exercise on a shared link.
