Job Description

Position Overview

As the Technical Writer you will deliver Content Assurance Services across CSIRO's Information Management & Technology (IMT) environment. Your role embeds content services into team and project processes, producing and managing technical and other content that is accurate, accessible, findable, consistent, and AI ready in a complex, fast moving environment.

You will add critical human judgement to all parts of the content, information, and knowledge creation and delivery process.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across IMT to produce, review, and edit high quality, accurate, and human checked content for project and team requirements.
  • Assess delivered content for accuracy, consistency, accessibility, findability, and fitness for purpose.
  • Assist teams to improve overall business processes by focusing on knowledge collection and transfer.
  • Support change management by improving adoption of delivered content.
  • Embed continuous improvement practices into content and information workflows.
  • Use AI tools, including creation of Agents, where appropriate.
  • Advise projects and teams on suitable use of available tools, including AI.
Essential Criteria
  • Demonstrated experience producing, reviewing and maintaining high quality technical documentation, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, discoverable and fit for purpose.
  • Proven ability to apply plain language principles, style guides, accessibility standards and professional judgement to create clear, user focused and AI ready content.
  • Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships and collaborate effectively with SMEs, technical specialists and business stakeholders to gather, validate and communicate complex information.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to contribute to shared outcomes within multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Experience managing information assets and documentation lifecycles to ensure information remains accurate, consistent, accessible and aligned to business needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to embed knowledge capture, transfer and content governance practices that support organisational change and user adoption.
  • Proficiency in modern documentation, collaboration and AI enabled tools, with demonstrated experience applying them to improve content quality, knowledge management and productivity.
  • Ability to provide guidance on the effective and responsible use of digital technologies, while maintaining awareness of emerging trends and opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality outcomes in dynamic environments, managing competing priorities, and tight deadlines.
  • Proven problem solving skills, sound judgement, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement and process optimisation.
  • Hands on experience using Jira, Confluence and SharePoint to manage project information, documentation and knowledge assets.
  • Ability to establish effective information management practices and support teams in adopting collaboration tools and reducing information silos.

  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace health, safety, environmental responsibility and ethical behaviour.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience with ITIL 4 (especially Knowledge Management) or similar models such as YASM.
  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the DIKW hierarchy.
Role Particulars
  • Location: All Australian capital cities with CSIRO sites considered.
  • Salary: AU$100,103 - AU$113,251 per annum (pro rata for part time), plus 15.4% superannuation.
  • Tenure & work schedule: Specified Term of 12 months.

This is a security assessed position. Applications are open to Australian citizens who can obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Negative Vetting 1 level.
