Job Description

Join the team bringing advanced autonomy to the built world

At Bedrock, we're moving AI out of the lab and into the real world. Our team includes veterans who helped launch Waymo, scaled Segment to a $3.2B acquisition, and grew Uber Freight to $5B in revenue. Today, we're deploying autonomous systems on heavy construction equipment across the country, improving safety on job sites and accelerating schedules on critical infrastructure projects.
We're not here debating the future of AI. We're deploying it in the real world. In just two years, we've raised $350M and achieved the first fully autonomous excavator deployments in construction.
This is where algorithms meet steel-toed boots. You'll work alongside construction veterans and world-class engineers to solve physical-world problems that simulations can't touch. If you're ready to do meaningful work on hard problems, we'd love to have you join us.

About the Role & Team

Nothing ships at Bedrock until it's been proven on real iron, on a real site, in real dirt. Test Operations runs the field program that turns engineering intent into evidence. We plan the tests, run them safely on autonomous excavators, and bring back data the whole company trusts. Proto-Town is our largest test site: more than 30 acres in Central Texas where several autonomous excavators and haul trucks run real mass-excavation work every day. As our Proto-Town Test Ops intern, you'll help run that daily testing, measure how well our autonomy performs, and find the failures before a customer does. You'll work in the field with our operators and Field Test Specialists, and directly with the autonomy engineers whose software you're testing.

What You'll Do

  • Help write Gen 3 test plans with hardware, controls, and autonomy engineers: what we're proving, how we'll measure it, and what pass looks like

  • Run structured field tests on autonomous and manually operated excavators, both in-cab and from the field, following our safety procedures

  • Own data quality for your campaigns: instrumentation and logging checks, then a review of recorded runs (e.g., in Foxglove) to confirm you captured what you meant to

  • Triage issues in the field: reproduce them, narrow down the cause, and write tickets engineering can act on the same day

  • Build Python tooling that automates test setup, data processing, and daily reporting

  • Turn what you learn into better test procedures, so the next Gen 3 machine goes through validation faster than the last one

  • Present your campaign results and recommendations to the engineering teams

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, robotics, or a related engineering field, or equivalent hands-on experience

  • Hands-on experience with test hardware, instrumentation, or data acquisition through coursework, projects, competition teams, or a prior internship

  • Working proficiency in Python for data processing, scripting, and automation

  • Basic electrical competence: multimeters, connectors, harnessing, reading a schematic

  • Willingness to work outdoors full-time at our field site, in PPE, on and around heavy equipment

  • Strong documentation habits and clear communication, because field results are only useful if others can trust and follow them

Preferred

  • Exposure to heavy equipment, off-highway machinery, hydraulics, or automotive and vehicle test

  • Experience with structured test planning or verification and validation (V&V) methods

  • Familiarity with Git, Linux command line, or ROS-style robotics tooling

  • Experience analyzing and visualizing large time-series datasets

  • Shop or field experience where you were responsible for safety and process (Formula SAE, Baja, robotics teams, etc.)
