Job Title: Technical Writer
Location: Remote | State of RI
Duration: Long-Term Contract
 
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain IT documentation, including SOPs, runbooks, knowledge base articles, technical procedures, and quick reference guides.
Create documentation for IT Helpdesk, Data Center Operations, and Network Operations.
Collaborate with SMEs and technical teams to gather and translate complex technical information into clear documentation.
Review, edit, and update existing documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
Organize documentation for easy search, knowledge sharing, onboarding, and operational support.
Establish and maintain documentation standards, templates, naming conventions, and quality processes.
Manage documentation lifecycle, including version control, reviews, approvals, and retirement of outdated documents.
 
Required Skills
Senior-level experience as a Technical Writer supporting IT infrastructure or operations.
Strong experience creating SOPs, runbooks, knowledge base articles, and technical documentation.
Experience documenting IT Helpdesk, Data Center, and Network Operations.
Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience with documentation platforms, knowledge management systems, and collaboration tools.
Knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM), ticketing systems, and documentation governance.
Excellent communication, interviewing, editing, and organizational skills.
 
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting higher education IT environments.
Familiarity with version control and documentation review workflows.
Experience working in remote, cross-functional IT teams.
